Cool restuarants in Soho

If you’re going to head to the coolest area of London, you don’t want to end up in a less-than-cool place to eat. Whether you’re going dancing, drinking, or trawling the quirky shops in Carnaby Street, we’ve put together this list of cool restaurants in Soho that’ll keep you on the right track.

Randall and Aubin

Classy and classic, Randall and Aubin have been taking up residence on Brewer Street since 1996. Serving up Anglo/French food, these guys are one of the oldest venues in the area and it’s easy to see why. Their oysters are famous across the city, with the choice of French, English, Irish, or Mixed rocks, and are delicious served with some champagne. The gorgeous decor complements the food perfectly too, French without being cliched. If you’re looking for cool restaurants in Soho, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Bob Bob Ricard

If you haven’t heard of BBR already, where have you been? Famous for their “push for champagne” buttons on every table, they revel in providing great service in opulent surroundings. Start off by ringing the bell for champagne (just do it, it’s great fun, we promise) and peruse their Anglo/Russian menu for traditional dishes with a twist. We love the chicken pie with a champagne sauce, a luxurious take on this dish. BBR is modelled on the Orient Express, meaning you’ll be as impressed by your surroundings as you will by the very Instagrammable food.

Darjeeling Express

Growing up in the Spice Girls era, we’re all big fans of girl power at ResDiary. Which is why we love Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express, a Mughlai inspired restaurant, run by an all-women team. Starting out as a dinner party in Asma’s home, it has evolved into a gorgeous restaurant in Carnaby Street’s popular Kingly Court. Be delighted by dishes like venison kofta, Bengali goat curry, and channa chaat, all as diverse as Soho itself.

The Chipping Forecast

Ah, we do love a good pun at ResDiary. But the fabulous name is not the only reason this old-fashioned chip shop has made it onto the list of cool restaurants in Soho. Serving up classic dishes like battered haddock or cod and a nostalgic fish finger sandwich, all with the ubiquitous mushy peas and tartar sauce, The Chipping Forecast is like a big hug from your childhood. If you’re looking for something a bit fancier, they also do dishes like slow steamed salmon with crushed potatoes, butternut squash puree, and vegetables too. Best of all provenance is really important to them so you know that whatever you’re eating, it’s sustainable.

Tea Room at Bun House

This speakeasy is located on the corner of Greek Street underneath the popular Bun House. Serving up a range of Cantonese treats, this place serves dishes like poached squid with house soy, oolong smoked quail, and crispy tofu beneath a green neon hue. Venturing down, you really do feel like you’re heading into an underground lair in a faraway country. If you’re looking to escape the London hustle and bustle, this is the perfect spot.
