So you’ve arranged a first date. Perhaps you’ve been lusting after them for ages, maybe you swiped right and found a good one, there’s a chance you met them in the club and can’t remember what they look like. However it all came about, you need somewhere to meet up. Whether you’ve going cool and classy, or late and wild, we’ve got our picks of the top first date restaurants in Dublin to help out.
Pushing the boat out
If you’re thinking of taking a first date to Patrick Guilbaud, you’ve clearly got it bad. With two Michelin stars and a fancier than fancy atmosphere, it’s the kind of place you go when you really want to impress. Wow your date with their tasty French food, all dreamed up by the man himself. Honestly, date number two is a dead cert with this one.
Keeping it classy
Wilde at The Westbury
Perhaps not quite on the level of Patrick Guilbaud, but if you’re looking to impress your date on a slightly smaller wallet, then Wilde is a good place to start. Situated in the upmarket Westbury Hotel, this 1930’s-style restaurant is decorated with a plethora of plants, plush sofas, and lovely lamps, you’re sure to feel like you’re in a romantic movie. Food consists mainly of classic Irish dishes with surprised like rose veal and spatchcock chicken, alongside salmon, rib-eye steaks, and duck breast.
Relaxed but impressive
If you’re looking for something a bit cool but still casual, this is the place for you. Craft is a trendy neighbourhood bistro in Harold’s Cross that was recently awarded a Bib Gourmand. Now that might sound a bit grand but with their stripped back interior and chilled-out, friendly service, it’s a great place for a relaxed first date. Their menu changes frequently but they try to source as locally as possible and there’s always a wide choice of dishes available.
When you don't remember them...
Sova Vegan Butcher
Oh god. You can’t remember anything about them other than doing sambuca shots at the bar. What if they’re really annoying? Maybe they’re a vegan?! Don’t worry, head to Sova Vegan Butcher. They serve up delicious vegan food that is on a par with some of the best dining establishments in the city. They even do vegan wine. And, if things aren’t going great, it’s right on cool Camden Street so you can always escape to a nearby bar.
Getting a bit merry?
Like the previously mentioned Wilde, this cool bar is situated in the classy Westbury Hotel. If you’re looking for cool and classy cocktails that pack a punch, then this is the place for you. From classics that you’ll recognise like the stirred, not shaken martini, or a Moscow mule, to twists on those classics like their bootlegger negroni, their menu is extensive and exciting. It’s definitely a great place to round off a night that’s gone well: your date will be delighted with the gorgeous spot and a bit of booze will help you get to know each other.
