As you’ve probably noticed, at ResDiary we’re big fans of food. All kinds of food. From Mexican to French, brunch to dinner, salty to sweet, rum steaks to vegetarian. But what we love the most is independent restaurants. These places have more charm than any other type of restaurants, the food is unique, and let’s be honest, it takes guts to open your own place starting from nothing. This is why we’ve created a list of the five best independent restaurants in Sheffield. If you suffer of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), you might want to book them right now.

The Devonshire Cat
If you’re a beer lover, we’ve got you covered. Located just a minute off Division Street in the heart of Sheffield, this British brasserie is one of our favourite independent restaurants in Sheffield. With more than 200 different beers, these guys are experts in food and beer pairings. Opened in 2001, it was the first beer bar in Sheffield, and has grown a lot since, introducing new dishes, beverages, and concepts like their beer and spirit tastings. Take advantage of their Thursday deal: beer and burger for only £10!
The Summer House
It’s always nice to try new types of food like Asian, Lebanese or Mexican. But sometimes it’s just good to stick to a good old British meal. This quirky restaurant will make you feel like you’re in a classic English country house. Whether you’re gluten or lactose intolerant, vegetarian, or vegan, these guys create every dish from scratch. They have many different menus to please you and all your friends, so head along for lunch, dinner, breakfast, or Sunday brunch.
OHM is by far one of our favourite independent restaurants in Sheffield. Not only do they offer delicious food in a trendy venue, but they also serve the very best cocktails in town. We’re not talking about the classic cocktails everyone knows. We’re talking about reinvented cocktails and new flavours, prepared by their exceptional mixologists team. Plus, this place has amazing deals! 50% off on main dishes on Monday, 2-4-1 pizza on Tuesday, nd 2-4-1 burgers on Wednesday. Perfect when you fancy a fabulous night out without wanting to hurt your wallet too much. And if you get addicted to their savoury cocktails (we can’t blame you), book a class with one of their mixologist, you might find your new vocation.
This authentic independent restaurant has been considered one of the best Italian spots in Sheffield since 1996. Their menus offer all the popular Italian dishes as well as amazing Tuscan plates, vegetarian options and a fabulous wine selection. The chefs use the finest ingredients that they source straight from Italy, deliciozo! And, they organise awesome events like concerts, wine nights, and cocktail master classes. We’re obsessed and you will be too!
