Hard day at your desk? Meeting up with the gang? Spot of shopping in town? Whatever the question, we’ve found the answer is usually “lunch.” It’s the best way to beat hump day blues, blow off a bit of steam, and obviously, fill your belly. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best lunch restaurants in Sheffield to suit all tastes.
The Devonshire Cat
Head down to the “Dev Cat” for a meal that’s sure to leave you slumped at your desk for the rest of the day (in a good way of course.) This local favourite serves up everything from classic fish and chips and chicken supreme, to beer braised wild rabbit and gin cured salmon. If you’re planning on attempting some work in the afternoon, they also have some lighter dishes like a traditional ploughman’s, or a spinach walnut and pomegranate salad. Sip on one of their delicious, rotating ales and pretend it’s the weekend for a bit. Go on.
The Treehouse Board Game Cafe
If lunch and a bit of entertainment is what you’re looking for, The Treehouse is a great pick. It’s Sheffield’s first board game cafe, with a huge selection of both board games and tasty treats. They have two menus; food menu and a board game menu. Both are split into starters, mains, and desserts so you can enjoy sharing plates of nachos, cheeses, or meats, as you tuck into Aliens from Outer Space, Jungle Speed, or Funemployed. They also have a selection of great beers on tap that change regularly, alongside great coffees and cakes. If you’re looking for lunch restaurants in Sheffield with a twist, this should be your first stop.
You really can’t do a list of the best lunch restaurants in Sheffield without including a pie. Which is why we’re recommending Pieminister, as it covers all your pie needs and more. Try out a Heidi; goat’s cheese, sweet potato, spinach, and red onion, a Deer Stalker; wild venison, bacon, red wine, and lentil, or go vegan with a Kevin featuring chestnut mushrooms, tomato, and red wine. They even offer pie meals with pies and sides from just £7.95, meaning you don’t need to break the bank for a tasty lunch. You can’t even feel guilty about being a bit of a pie when you head to Pieminister as these guys are all about giving back. Portions of the profits from your lunch go to charities like DrinkMe:SaveLives campaign and Send a Cow, sending livestock and seeds to African families.
Mester’s Social/Forge Bakehouse
When a cafe is built off the back of a bakery business, it’s almost always a winner. Which is partly why Mester’s Social is one of Sheffield’s most popular spaces for lunch. Their brunch menu is served ‘til four, meaning you can tuck into delicacies like French toast (homemade obviously), huevos rancheros, or harissa fried eggs on their own sourdough toast, well past lunchtime. They also offer a light lunch menu, and a kids menu, making it the perfect place to head with your brood. Best of all, if you go early, kids eat free brunch with a paying adult between 9am-11am Tuesday – Friday. Winner!
Broadfield Ale House
There’s something really comforting about a proper pub lunch. Chilling out on a comfy seat, pint in hand, and great food on the table. That’s why, if you’re in Sheffield and looking for lunch, Broadfield Ale House has gotta be on your list. With classics like a beef burger, lamb shoulder, or sausage and mash, mixed in with adventurous dishes like nduja, sun-dried tomatoes, and bocconcini bruschetta, there’s something to suit everyone on the menu. Best of all, they’re dog friendly, making it the perfect place to pop into if you’re out with the pooches having a stroll around Sheffield.
One of Sheffield’s most gorgeous venues, Bloo 88 brings vintage vibes, and modern day cooking techniques. Their ethos revolves around that classic pairing; pizza and cocktails, and boy do they do them well. With an American section, Italian choices, and a list of their own signatures, you’re going to be spoilt for choice. We recommend the carbonara pizza (yes, really), the Philly cheese, or the hoisin duck, with sides of baked camembert or stuffed balls. The pizzas are great but they also taste even better if you wash them down with a Geisha cocktail, or an elderflower collins from their extensive menu. If you’re looking for lunch in Sheffield that can carry on well into the night, Bloo 88 is the perfect spot for you.
