Pre-theatre in Belfast

Going out for dinner is one of our favourite things. A bargain is pretty damn close behind it. Which is why we’ve mixed the two together and set you up with some of the best places for pre-theatre in Belfast. Whether it’s fine dining, or a fun time, it’s all on this list.

James St.

The merging of James Street South and The Bar and Grill at James St., this restaurant carries on the tradition of great fine dining that owner Niall McKenna promotes in all his venues. With some of the best pre-theatre in Belfast, the menu is available Monday to Saturday (yes Saturday!) between 16.30-18.30 and is just £18.50 for two courses. Treat yourself to ham hock, grilled plaice, and even a cheeseboard on the dessert menu at no surcharge. Anywhere that’s free and easy with the cheese is a winner in our books.

2 courses – £18.30
3 courses – £21.50

Made in Belfast City Hall

One of Belfast’s quirkiest restaurants, Made in Belfast City Hall is a riot of colour, mismatched furniture, and great characters. And great deals. Between 4pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 12p and 6pm Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy their delicious food for just £17.50 for two courses. (Not December though. Sorry revellers.) Their pre-theatre menu has all the flavour of their full menu, featuring chicken liver parfait, and their famous Irish rump steak. Trust us, this place is rare.

2 courses – £17.50
3 courses – £21.50

Howard Street

Renowned for cooking with only the best seasonal ingredients, Howard Street is a great place to visit, regardless of the deal. For just £20, you get two of their delicious courses, and for £34 treat yourself to three courses with a cocktail. Sip concoctions like the cinnamon bark sour; Bulleit bourbon, grapefruit, cinnamon bark syrup, and whites while enjoying their food. Dishes like coconut seafood curry, chicken supreme, and confit duck leg will set you right up for a night at the shows.

2 courses – £20
3 courses – £26.50
3 courses & cocktail – £34

Morso at The Doyen

The Doyen is a cafe bar, bar, and private dining rooms that now contains Italian restaurant Morso. This bright colourful space is perfect for families, their varied menu sure to provide something for all the family. And from 5pm Monday-Friday, two courses are available for just £15. Choose from pizzas, flatbreads, chargrilled pork loin, pan roast cod, and much more. Add in a carafe of wine for just an extra £10 and it’s the perfect place for pre-theatre in Belfast.

2 courses – £15
Add wine – £10

La Scala Bistro

Situated in the lovely Stormont Hotel, La Scala is a fine dining bistro that is great for pre-theatre dining. The chefs are focused on providing locally sourced food at great prices and do their utmost to ensure their ingredients are seasonal. Between 5pm and 7pm Sunday to Thursday, they offer two courses and a glass of wine for just £22 on their Dine and Wine menu. Options include fish and chips, veggie curry, and beef and ale pie so you’ll never be stuck for choice.
