Is it even Christmas without going to a Christmas market? Is it possible to feel festive without spending over a fiver on a horrible German sausage in a dry bun? Whatever you think of them, the markets are a rite of passage during December. However, afterwards you might want some real food. So we’ve put together a list of our favourite restaurants near the Liverpool Christmas markets for you to chill out, thaw out, and fill your bellies in.
Maray Bold Street
Pretty much the antithesis of a Christmas market, this super relaxed space serves up tasty small plates, done in inventive ways. Even their Christmas menu itself takes tired old turkey and turns it on its head with plates like tamarind pigs in blankets, spiced orange honey pork cheeks, and buttermilk fried chicken. With its brick walls, neutral colours, and friendly staff it’s a safe haven away from the madness of the markets.
A little less relaxing than Maray, a visit to Sapporo is like going to a great show. The chefs here are all teppanyaki-trained, meaning there will be fire, flaring, and plenty of food throwing as they serve up your meal. Choose dishes like sushi or sashimi, yakisoba noodles, and much more. Choose to sit at a table, or the teppanyaki area and get right into the action. It’s the perfect place to bring all the family after a great festive day out.
Wishing you were somewhere warm this Christmas? Get yourself down to Lunya, a Catalan-style restaurant near Liverpool’s Christmas markets. They’re the UK’s biggest Spanish deli, with over 1300 Spanish and Catalunian products, most of which they use in their tasty food. We recommend trying their Christmas menu, a selection of tapas dishes and starters, with a Spanish twist. Just make sure you book first, it’s a really popular spot.
After a day of wandering around outside and losing all the feeling in your extremities, sometimes you just need a big meat feed. Enter Bem Brasil. Upon entering the restaurant, you are served drinks and guided to the salad bar to fill your plate with whatever you like. Then back at your table, you turn a disc up or down, depending on whether you want more meat. Face it up and the waiters will come round with a selection of skewers for you to choose from. It’s original, it’s fun, and the whole family will love it. (Except perhaps, the veggies.)
The London Carriage Works
The perfect place if you’re looking to have a big festive day out, The London Carriage Works is one of the most impressive venues on our list. Situated in an imposing building, these guys serve up lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, each one more delicious than the other. We love the sharing platters on their evening menu, with treats for the whole group, including seafood and shellfish and charcuterie. A great cocktail menu, with a selection of lovely fizz makes this one of our favourite restaurants near the Liverpool Christmas markets.
