Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, or you’re just feeling a bit lovey-dovey, there’s always a great reason to grab a romantic meal with your other half. Often though, the biggest problem is figuring out where the heck to go. (We bet Romeo and Juliet didn’t have this issue!) To save you trawling the internet and starting the infernal “where do you want to go?” “Don’t care” conversation, we’ve rounded up the best romantic restaurants in Leeds right here.
If anyone knows a bit about fire and passion, it’s the Spanish. So where better to head for a romantic dinner than a tapas restaurant? One of our favourite hang outs in the city, Ambiente serves up tasty nibbles in a cosy atmosphere. Try out tapas favourites and drink some of their incredible wine, all in the romantic atmosphere of candlelight. Just remember to book a table cos these guys are pretty popular. Si?
The perfect spot if you’re looking to push the boat out a bit, Chaophraya is an upmarket Thai restaurant where you’ll eat gorgeous food in opulent surroundings. One of our favourite things about this romantic Leeds restaurant is how lovely the staff are: expect to feel treated like royalty, while simultaneously feeling like you’re in your own private world. They serve up classic and modern Thai dishes and they have an incredible cocktail list if you’re making a night of it.
Cat's Pyjamas Eastgate
Perhaps not the most conventional romantic restaurant in Leeds, The Cat’s Pyjamas is still one of our favourite places to head for a date. (And that makes it romantic, right?) Serving up the kind of comfort food that makes you feel right at home, the mixture of bright colours and heat in the food means that your date will definitely be spicy. Famous for their versions of traditional street food, try out dishes like pork belly vindaloo, railway potato curry, and whole tandoori seabream that will leave your tummy full and your heart happy.
Dakota Deluxe Leeds
Plush furniture, deep carpets, mood lighting, and a generously stocked bar. Does it get more romantic? This upmarket hotel on Russell Street is perfect if you’re looking for something a bit classy with an a la carte menu filled with delicious treats. Go wild and try out the Chateaubriand for two, paired with something from the extensive wine list. And it would be rude to visit without hanging out at the impressive bar and grabbing a cocktail.
Perhaps we’re wrong, but one of the main things we look for in a romantic restaurant in Leeds is mood lighting. You can be surrounded by love hearts and oysters but if the “big light” is on, it aint romantic. Which is why we love Shears Yard, with its proclivity for candles, low hanging lights, and impressive fixtures. Even better, it’s a great spot to go for a date, with a range of menus, from a la carte to a gorgeous tasting menu to choose from. Even better they have a great bar serving delicious cocktails and a great outdoor area for al fresco romance.
