Seafood restaurants in Edinburgh

Edinburgh is known for many things, the mesmerising castle, its incredible history, the world-famous fringe festival, the list goes on. However, did you know it’s also home to some of the freshest seafood around? Don’t fall victim to a sad looking prawn cocktail or overcooked calamari ever again. We’ve trawled the streets of Edinburgh to find you the best seafood restaurants in Edinburgh.

Fishers in the city

Let’s dive straight into it with first on our list, Fishers in the city. Set in a converted warehouse on Thistle Street, Fishers in the City is a spacious and stylish space in the centre of Edinburgh. The more so’fish’ticated (sorry we had to) branch, of the famous Fishers Bistro in Leith, Fishers in the city is a go-to for succulent oysters, delicious scallops and sea bass cooked to perfection.

Cadiz

Transport yourself back to sunnier days with a visit to Cadiz, sister restaurant to popular tapas restaurant in Edinburgh, Cafe Andaluz. Hoping to take you from Scotland to Spain, this restaurant serves up fresh seafood with some cracking cocktails to wash everything down. The menu includes everything from perfectly cooked grilled fillet of sea bass, to lobster, to delicately cooked scallops.

Fisher's Bistro

The original (and some may say the best) Fishers, can be found on the historic shore in Leith tucked under a 17th-century signal tower and is recognised as one of the city’s best seafood restaurants. Get the cod, the fish cakes or even the lobster, what the ‘hake’ just get it all, you won’t be disappointed.

Locanda de Gusti

Even though this next entry is not exclusively a seafood restaurant, the seafood here is so good that we couldn’t leave it out. Growing up in a large family in Naples where life revolved around the kitchen table, Chef Rosario aims to bring a real taste of Italy to Edinburgh, and he certainly does that. Upon entering you instantly feel like you’ve jumped into an Italian family kitchen where the atmosphere is bright and buzzy. Here, seafood comes in a variety of dishes from delicious pasta with lobster to (our favourite) the Scialatielli, ribbons of fresh pasta tossed with Scottish seafood, olive oil, garlic and a touch of chilli.

Ondine

If you love oysters then Ondine is the place for you. For 200 years people have been selling oysters in cellars and street corners on the Royal Mile, but here they take pride of place at the Oyster Bar. The decor here is oh so fancy, and it makes a great venue for a special occasion. The food is also a treat with dishes influenced by flavours from all over the world. Take the classic fish soup which is enhanced with North African spices, or the razor clams that are served with Iberico and Sicilian lemons.

The Shore Bar and Restaurant

Don’t forget about this little gem hidden away at the far end of the Shore, The Shore Bar and Restaurant. Open fires and hearty satisfying food is what you can expect here. Located right next to another one on our list, Fishers Bistro, The Shore showcases a range of dishes but the fresh seafood is the highlight here. We should also mention that there you can enjoy live folk and jazz music most nights, creating a great atmosphere for you to enjoy your meal.
