A few favourites

It’s Sunday. You’ve either woken up with the mother of all hangovers, or you’re fresh as a daisy, feeling smug, and looking to “do something with the day”. Whatever you’re up to, you need to eat and we all know what that means: Sunday lunch. Don’t worry, you don’t need to spend hours researching, we’ve put together a list of our favourite places for a Sunday roast in Dublin. So get up, get dressed and get your roast potato on.

The Old Spot

One of the only two pubs in Dublin to be recommended by the Michelin Guide, The Old Spot’s head chef , Fiachra Kenny serves up classic Irish food in a cosy but stylish pub environment. They have a dedicated Sunday menu, featuring pork shoulder, steak, and not one, but two Sunday roasts. They’re served with duck fat potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrots, and red wine jus. It’s  the desserts that really finish things off though, with dishes like chocolate fondant and paired wines available. Get booked in early and nab yourself one of their cosy booths.

Brookwood

Brookwood in Dublin 2 put a real focus on delivering quality meats, meaning that their Sunday roasts are some of the best in Dublin. (Don’t worry veggies, there’s some stuff on the menu for you too!) With a whole menu dedicated to Sundays, you can choose from beef, chicken, pork belly, or them all! All are served with Yorkshire puds, mash, veggies, and gravy. If you’re pushing the boat out, there’s also a selection of steaks to choose from. Go on, you’re tempted right?

Bastible

One of the darling’s of the Dublin restaurant scene (and with good reason) Bastible is a great place to head any day of the week. But it’s on Sundays that we think they really come into their own. They offer “family style lunch” where large cuts of meats and fish are available to share, with a selection of starters and sides to accompany it. The dishes change every week but they’re almost always accompanied by the tastiest of veg, and a great selection of wines and cheeses. This is a small venue so reservations are highly recommended.

The Butcher Grill

Who says roasts are only for Sundays? Whether you work shifts, you can’t keep track of the days, or you just fancy a roast on a Saturday, darn it, The Butcher Grill is your place to head. They serve up a great roast menu from 12-13.50 both Saturday and Sunday, featuring roast rib of beef, rack of pork, and roast chicken. They’re all served with the usual sides and giant Yorkshire puddings. And talking of puddings, their bread and butter one is one of the best we’ve had.

FX Buckley Monkstown

Renowned butchers for several generations, you won’t be surprised to know that FX Buckley do meat really, really well and if you’re looking for a Sunday roast in Dublin, it doesn’t get much better than this. Served from 1pm every week, their roast consists of roast rib of beef, (cooked medium) with all the trimmings, including our favourite, duck fat potatoes. Wash it down with their version of the Bloody Mary and watch that hangover dance out the door.
