We booked online for Sunday dinner. Booking was easy! The staff at barnsdale lodge were friendly and helpful. We had a 4 week old baby plus our 2 daughters. They asked us where we wanted to eat and we asked to be seated somewhere that would be out of the way of the main diners. They seated us in a small side room which was perfect! The roast beef was amazing! I especially loved the red cabbage... it tasted exactly like Christmas! Kids portions were good and they had a good choice. Again their food was very tasty and they both cleared their plates. We will definitely be back.
Another excellent meal. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and outstanding service.
Food was excellent, staff not so. £10.60 gratuity added to the bill was not acceptable, when I paid £110 for a meal for 2.
most enjoyable lunch to which we brought friends from Ssussex.Delicious food although \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ should have preferred slightly less al dente
We are regular diners here and have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, imaginative food and attentive service. On our most recent visit, the food was excellent and the portions more generous than have sometimes been the case. There is a good wine list with well-priced bottles to suit every taste and wallet. The service has previously been equally good but there were issues this time, with unexplained delays and gluten-free food not turning out to be completely gluten-free. The attitude of the Maitre D' was disappointing but the rest of the staff did everything necessary to achieve a satisfactory resolution.
We decided to spend a couple of days at Barnsdale Lodge,as a trip down memory lane,as I used to stay here during the Rutland Bird Fair from 1998 till 2004. I found the food disappointing when comparing what it was all those years ago.I though the prices were expensive for what was not much better than the average pub grub.
Food mainly very good. Service mainly v slow. Only offered drinks once. Staff left our main course plates for a long time before they were taken away. We arrived at 7.45 and left at 11.15. I think there was a large private room being serviced at same time. Service did pick up when we were last table left however.
The Bank Holiday offer was extremely good value for money but it is always great to visit this hotel for a stay and very good food (and drink)
Stayed for three nights. Food was superb and service from all staff was very good. Our main server, Georgie, was an absolute delight.
Everything was spot on when we came for afternoon tea yesterday. We really enjoyed our visit and we were very well looked after. It was a vast improvement on our visit earlier in the year when we were disappointed.
Beautiful setting, lovely looking out over the gardens.
Took my mum for afternoon tea to celebrate her 85th birthday. Lovely venue, in conservatory overlooking the garden/courtyard. We had the champagne afternoon tea - sandwiches were very dainty (4 kinds). Scone with jam, lemon curd and clotted cream were just the right size to allow room for cake. Only criticism would be that we had to ask for the tea after the food had arrived and that a request for tap water was also not followed through without prompting. However, this did not detract from what was a very enjoyable experience and my mum thought it was lovely which was the intention.
A lovely meal served by friendly and efficient staff in beautiful surrounding - slightly pricy for what it was though.
We were on an afternoon tea slot I had booked for my friends birthday. Unfortuneately the english breakfast tea tasted horrible. The waiter did change the milk for me however the taste didn't improve. I ended up drinking herbal teas as it was undrinkable. For somewhere offering an afternoon tea they could benefit from investing in better tea bags as this is what guests will expect. The food was lovely.
We have eaten with you on a number of occasions and will come again! We would like to come and stay for a few days. We would prefer a twin room or to stay in one of your lodges.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere
We had a lovely lunch with friends and family, the food was very good and so was the service. Thank you very much for making my birthday memorable
Excellent food and service. What makes Barnsdale different? Staff is always friendly and many remember your name. This is very important in distinguishing Barnsdale from other establishments. They always make guests feel welcome and that makes it more like coming home than going out. Staff consistency is also a strength for Barnsdale. An example, Carol at reception, greets everyone like a family member when they arrive, then goes the extra mile to make sure everything is working well for every guest. Thanks for a great evening.
Very good food. Only 2 vegetarian main courses, whereas last year when we dined here there was a third vegetarian option on the specials. Not a complaint, just an interesting observation. Friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent food; friendly, considerate but unobtrusive service from the staff; a most enjoyable evening dinner had by the four of us. Well done !
Not a lot of atmosphere but we had asked to be inside, very pleasant waitress`s but did have to keep asking them to fill the wine glasses ! We had an enjoyable Sunday lunch
Excellent friendly service, with good quality food
We eat here at least twice a year and have always enjoyed the hospitality shown. The quality of the current menu and service is as high as it has ever been.
Wonderful surroundings, very friendly staff. Really enjoyed our lunch here in the Courtyard
