About The Plumpy Duck at Bowfield
The Plumpy Duck at Bowfield Hotel is a new contemporary bar and restaurant.
Our chefs have created a modern menu, capturing the best of what Scotland’s larder has to offer. With 100% Scottish reared beef from the lush hills of Scotland, seafood from Loch Fyne Fisheries and game sourced from Highland estates.
Featured alongside great classic dishes and some firm family favourites.
Afternoon Tea is served Monday to Friday, 14.30 - 17.00
Sadly it’s the little details that mainly let this restaurant down. Firstly, I went into the restaurant about 30 mins early to get some menus while our child played in the soft play area. I waited around 5 mins with staff walking past me without acknowledging me. Finally I went and interrupted two staff members having a chat and asked for some menus which were quickly given, albeit not actual menus but photocopy sheets. The starters were not too bad, however the crab cakes with avocado and tomato salsa turned into avocado and slices of chilli on the side.Under seasoned and not quite as advertised. We ordered the kids Sunday roast, which was great value and a good portion and also quite tasty, we asked for some extra gravy and this was brought in a cold pottery jug, I’m sure the gravy was warm when it was put in but it was luke warm on serving and quickly became cold. The pea and asparagus risotto was not a risotto, it was more a bowl of rice with peas and asparagus, no risotto style and taste. The chicken we order with the risotto was just plainly grilled and didn’t seem to blend with the dish. The beef medallions and chorizo were over cooked (not asked on ordering how I’d like them cooked) and the sauce was mainly just chorizo oil...a bit sickly. Also I was advised that this dish did not have any sides (despite saying grain mustard potatoe mash included) so we were advised to order some more sides only to find the dish had quite a large portion of potatoes submerged below the oil under the beef. Desert arrived with sauce splashed all over the side of the plate and with a fly stuck on top of the ice cream. After pointing this out the next one arrived, presented much better and tasted great, this was also taken off the bill without asking which was much appreciated. Lastly as we were sitting after our meal we discovered a breakfast sausage underneath our seat. Just seemed to sum up our night, ok food but poor attention to details. Room for improvement! As members of Bowfield we would love to see this restaurant succeed, particularly as the refurb looks so good, we had high hopes for our first time in the new restaurant. Over all the meal wasn’t bad however it’s not somewhere we would be rushing back to.
Lovely afternoon with friends, pity car park so dark when you come out
A lovely relaxing Sunday, using the spa facilities and then a lovely dinner in the cozy plumpy duck.
Very impressed with décor - eye catching and elegant.
Food lovely, Plenty of choice & Prices fair. Atmosphere relaxed
Amazing service from eveyone! The food was amazing and the place looks lovely! Can't wait to come back
Lovely food and great service
Waiting staff were pleasant but not very attentive. We were left at entrance to restaurant by receptionist and had to go find a waitress to be seated and again to get the bill. Food was very nice but overpriced and did take a noticably long time to arrive.
My family and I enjoyed a lovely meal, the members special discount of 40% was greatly ppreciated!
Discount of drinks would be nice fir full members Further promotions for members
Lovely meal as always at the Bowfield, the meals are never disappointing, The service being first class, staff are friendly and attentive.. the Plumpy Duck is a beautiful restaurant, with a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all family and friends.
There wasn't a great choice for vegetarians, and neither if you prefer fish without bones! However the food we did order was very tasty and everything else - the renovations and the staff were lovely
Very long wait for a bottle of wine, food came to the table before we had to remind the waiter about our drinks. No flow of staff around the tables, checking on food and drinks and therefore no opportunity to ask for the bill.
Only problem was I had booked the table on lone for 19.00hrs, and when we arrived in the restaurant we were told it was for 19.45hrs. I had the required paper work to show the correct time. The situation was dealt with professionally and we were soon seated.
Food was faultless. Staff lovely and efficient. Restaurant and bar lovely but could possibly do with some air conditioning? ?
Music just on the loud side. With a large group, therefore, difficult to converse with everyone. (I've mentioned this to the staff before). But service and food excellent.
I think the waiter who served us could do with some further training. Ordered a bottle of red wine. He let my husband taste then filled my husbands glass and proceeded to ask if I wanted him to fill my glass as if he was doing me a favour.
Chowder tasted fabulous, but it would have been enhanced by serving it with a small piece of bread to soak it up.
What a great new restaurant at the bowfield hotel. From the moment we walked in we were so well looked after and the Duck special was awesome. Looking forward to coming back next week with friends.
Absolutely love this place it is so cosy & welcoming but this visit compared to other times I have dined here was a bit of a let down. The food was lovely but portion size has gone down significantly and for the price you pay we were a little disappointed.
Very cosy and warm environment. Staf were very friendly and welcoming. Food was lovely. Will definitely be back.
This was our second year coming to the bowfield for mothers day lunch and yet again, it didn't disappoint. Fantastic service and the food was tremendous. Would highly recommend.
Booked for 11.30-only lunch slot available so was disappointed when we arrived and was advised lunch didn't start till 12. Not sure why this booking slot was available? Apart from this food good, good atmosphere and quick friendly service
