Tipsy Tea is served Friday - Sunday 12.00 - 18.00
We booked in advance and upon turning up, the friendly staff were able to help us after our booking had been removed from the system. It transpired that the venue had a booking from about 3.30pm so we can only assume that we were bumped out to suit that. Anyway, the great staff took our order and brought over our afternoon tea. Other than the sliced white bread being stale / dried out and the scones being hard as rocks, the quantity of food was great and the prosecco washed down those hard and dry bits. The place lacked atmosphere due to lack of customers, i guess that this must have been due to the notice on the door that essentially turned people away, saying last orders at 2.45pm due to the venue being booked out. I dont know if we will be back, we were looking forward to the atmosphere more than anything, but to us it seemed that the larger group booking took priority and us two who still spent almost £70 for our afternoon tea were of less importance. I hope this is accepted as an honest picture of what we experienced and dont let it spoil your decision, just be careful of those large group bookings bringing in the big money.
Lovely Tipsy Tea for a birthday treat, cocktails were delicious, atmosphere was great, staff very friendly and helpful, most of the food was good but my only gripe was that the sandwiches were a bit dry and there were no pigs in blankets, which is why I’ve given only 3 stars for value for money, otherwise an excellent afternoon!
The staff were really disorganised and didn’t seem to know what they were doing. I booked a table for Christmas afternoon tea over a month ago, received a confirmation email and then a reminder email yet when we arrived the staff didn’t seem to have any details of our booking or the Christmas afternoon tea offer. Great venue though and food was really nice.
The buffet for veggies was very poor Nice peppers but nowt else Nee plates Great service Great cocktails Late night music was pants Great venue Would do it again
Great Sunday roast
Excellent quality food at a very affordable price, good friendly service, we will definitely be visiting again.
Lovely bar with a great atmosphere and nice cocktails!
I can’t thank the staff at Colonel Porters enough, from the initial booking with Stacey all the way through to the guys who worked their socks off on the evening! The atmosphere was fantastic, Archie’s Lab is such a great venue, so many great compliments from all who attended the party on the venue, staff and the food. Thank you all so much for helping create a fantastic evening for us all!
Had Sunday lunch. V good on the whole except pigs in blankets could have done with more minutes in oven - bit under cooked. Also, when been before only charged nominal amount for pint of lime & soda - £2 this time. Service excellent - nice beer.
My only gripe was the portion size of the roast topside of beef. For £14.95 we expected more than what was served to be fair. Nothing wrong with the quality though. All three courses were very nice.
Had a fantastic afternoon on Saturday for my hen-do. The tipsy was lovely and the lounge area was great for my party. 10/10! Thank you
One of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle. Love it.
Lovely friendly staff, gorgeous venue and the food was brilliant. Will definitely be coming back here
Great ambiance, great food and great service, my favourite place in Newcastle :)
This was not our first visit and won’t be our last. Food lovely brilliant choice of vegetables and the bonus of a free dessert as we booked in advance.
Lovely interior design
Food was superb, some of the best beef stew and mash I have ever. The live acoustic guitar music was also very enjoyable. Service was quick and friendly.
Visited for restaurant week with a partner, ordered the beef stew and cheesecake desert. The beef was extremely tough and fatty though the taste of the sauce was nice, as was the mash. Portion sizes were very small, especially the desert. The cheesecake was listed as white chocolate though there was no taste there. Best way to describe it was two quenelles of whipped cream with some crumbled digestive sprinkled on top, deconstructed cheesecake taken too far I think. Drink prices were also very high, won’t be returning for cocktails or food anytime soon.
We were sat in the restaurant and the singer started to play- I felt sorry for him as we couldn’t hear a word he was saying his guitar was turned up too loud. Food was ok- very small portions yes it was restaurant week but I wouldn’t pay £5 for that tiny square of the peanut butter slice I had. Was ok but I wouldn’t say it was restaurant tasty
Great service and music. Some of the cocktails were a bit weak.
The staff were efficient friendly professional and helpful. The food was delicious and could not be faulted. I do think the portions could be a little bigger but it was a very enjoyable dining experience in a unique environment.
Amazing side portions especially for restaurant week. Camembert starter could easily be a sharing starter. Beef shin stew was delicious. All courses me and my wife had were amazing. Compliments to the chef and great service throughout also
The second time I’ve had Sunday lunch in this quirky restaurant/bar both times the food/service was absolutely beautiful, would recommend to anyone
Brilliant night and band was superb!
