Magnificent hotel, excellent service and glorious setting. Our room overlooked the lake which was an extra bonus, there were signs of a wedding, which did not disturb or spoil our stay. Marvellous!!!
Room was spacious and clean bathroom sink was cracked which was a little disappointing. Restaurant food was very enjoyable although the service was quite slow
Fantastic night, couldn’t fault anything, will be prioritising here over ramside I’m future.
My mum loved her day here
I found the afternoon tea OK but as we were in the afternoon room off the bar and with only two people could I suggest some music played or something rather than sitting listening to other people Also we came for a charity ball a couple of weeks ago and will complain about the food my husband along with several others caught food poisoning
Booked in to hotel and paid a lot of money for a deluxe room and booked in to restaurant all as part of our silver wedding celebrations. This had been given as a gift from family and we looked forward to a nice romantic evening. We had a pleasant day up until the meal which when served was inedible. The head chef did come out and agreed with us and was very apologetic. The meal was obviously not paid for but it absolutely spoiled the evening and put a real damper on it. I did talk with the manager later in the evening who did say he would see me in the morning at check out to see what could be done. Unfortunately he wasn't there. The bug bear is that we paid £169 for a room to celebrate our occasion but had a disappointing time. I have emailed the manager Lee Kirtland directly after arriving home but as yet have had no response.
This was for my wife’s birthday day and the food was so over cooked it was dry and spoiled my wife’s night and when I told them all I got was sorry about that but that’s why happens when it’s a bunch of kids that’s just left school
Dirty table, crockery and service was very slow. Would not come back.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and tasty food. Lemon meringue cupcakes were delicious!
The service from the Rib was excellent! It really helped make our night a good one.
Lovely hotel with amazing grounds. The food is delicious with lots to choose from. Very quick service too.
Booked in for afternoon tea. Great service in a wonderful setting. loads of fabulous food and we were given boxes to take excess home if we wanted to. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.
after looking for the mentioned suit to have our Afternoon Tea with no success as there were 2 wedding parties on so the whole hotel had been sectioned off etc..went to reception who advised us to go to the bar and ask...serving several wedding guest so waited..just about to attend to us and a group of ten people from a wedding came in to buy drinks so we were left to wait even further and the bar maid served other people coming in after us...15 mins later...told her we.d booked for Afternoon Tea so she went to get another member of staff..5 mins later we were taken through various large sectioned off rooms to the back of the Hotel..were we were met by 2 members of staff who promptly said they had no tables ready and that the room they were using was fully occupied despite I having previously made a reservation..were asked if we would like to go and sit in the Bar and have our Tea or just take 2 big lounge chairs in the corridor areas and have our Afternoon Tea in the common areas..we settled to sit outside on the patio area..this being our very first time at Hardwick Hall Hotel were very disappointed to say the least by this time..we were then asked what we wanted...???..we were given no menues to browse or even to see what was on offer so we asked the waitress what was available etc...she reemed of the 2 different types of Teas there were without even attempting to go get some menus....we decided on the Northern Tea.......ten mins later she proceeded to bring the china out, not on a tray may I add but cups, saucers, milk jug and cutlery carried in her hands and pressed against her chest....Tea pot followed 5 mins later....25 mins later as I was just actually getting up from my seat to go inside and see where the food was the waitress came with the stand..by this time it has taken 1 hour and ten minutes to be seen, seated and served..I cant say the food was overly fresh, the stotties were very dry as was the cheeses that filled them and the scones were very dry too...over the course of the 2 hours we sat having our Tea we were offered several re-freshed tea pots which was a nice change considering the train crash of a service we had just endured....when it came to eating our desserts we had asked for a clean plate and cutlery as the other one was dirty from pickles and savoury food....hence they never turned up so we had to wipe our knives and plate with our serviettes and re-use these..my friend & I had both travelled half an hour each from different directions to meet in the middle as we had not seen each other for a long while and decided to treat ourselves to a nice afternoon and chose this Hotel instead of a nice Garden Centre or high street Cafe as I often walk around the park next to this Hotel....what a very disappointing experience this turned out to be and I can safely say We would not go back to this Hotel and spend the £ to treat ourselves again when we would get much better service and food elsewhere..fresh..and having Wedding functions on should not interrupt other events or services for supply & demand on offer..this is after all the nature of the business you are in..if the Hotel is short staffed, can`t cope, especially after taking bookings..then surely you should cancel the likes of Lunches & Afternoon Teas instead of providing very sub-standard service..can I also add the hygiene standards behind your Bar area need attention...the dirty filthy blue jay cloths sitting on the top next to expresso machine with bottles of cleaning spray and other various cloths and tea towels scattered behind the bar next to drinking glasses really left a lot to be desired......
Took a while to pay at the end but the food was excellent and very good value for money.
The first time we had Sunday lunch at The Hardwick we were very impressed by the quality of the food, to the point that my wife commented that it was one of the best lunches. This cannot be said on our last visit, one of the drinks was not as ordered, the plated food was of reasonable standard, but the choice of vegetables was poor albeit the volume supplied was too much. Too bad if one didn't like some of the vegetables that was supplied. It would be better to provide a greater choice but on a smaller quantity. We observed that a table of 4 diners received the same quantity as we did. With regard to the pudding (mixed fruits cheesecake)it was almost inedible and of poor quality. In general the main complaint is centered on the choice and quantity of vegetables supplied. If this problem is addressed I am sure the Sunday lunches would be much improved.
Your staff need to be trained in meeting and greeting customers into the restaurant. All but one staff member could break the slightest of smiles. (The older gentleman with a slight foreign accent was actually wonderful and couldn't do enough). Cutlery had to be changed due to dried food stuck thereon. I had ham hock terrine which was actually very nice but the lettuce had definitely seen better days.
Recently been for afternoon tea for my mothers birthday, service was great scenery and setting was perfect but the food was average unfortunately which was disappointing when paying £20 per person. Cakes were lovely but savouries (pork pies and cheese tart in particular) could do with improving.
Room was lovely. Had a lovely big bath to relax in. Was a treat for our anniversary. Food in the restaurant was delicious with friendly and efficient staff. Overall had a lovely time.
Great remote location. Very quiet (if there is no function in the hotel) and the De Luxe rooms are very nice. Good restaurant
A very nice afternoon tea. Staff were attentive and friendly.
Thank you for an excellent afternoon tea which we treat ourselves to for our wedding anniversary, we where given a complimentary drink on arrival, the food was top class and the same must be said about the person who served us, he couldn't have been more attentive, the hotel speaks for itself, the only thing I would suggest is maybe some background music playing. I can guarantee we will be back and will certainly be recommending you to others.
Food was amazing and the service was brilliant. We will be returning soon!
Enjoyed Sunday lunch with friends, the Yorkshire pudding was not up to previous standards but the rest of the meal was great. The cheesecake was fab !!! This is the third time I have had Sunday lunch there but standards have slipped a wee bit. Cannot fault the staff they were excellent and it was still good value.
Excellent service ...as many pots of tea as we wanted..
