About Holiday Inn Southend, 1935
THE ONLY ROOFTOP RESTAURANT AND BAR IN ESSEX
1935 offers a spectacular dining experience and views to match.
The striking, fully sound-proofed 1935 Rooftop Restaurant and Bar sits atop the five-storey Holiday Inn Southend and takes its name from the year that the airport first opened as a municipal airport for the public.
Not only is this the first rooftop restaurant and bar in Essex, it is also a first for Holiday Inn across the UK. Whilst enjoying dinner & drinks in the evenings or wanting a place for a relaxing Sunday lunch, you will be able to enjoy breath-taking views of the surrounding Essex countryside and perhaps watch a plane taking off or landing at the airport.
Due to the high demand on Fridays & Saturday Nights please ensure you have your dinner reservation confirmed even if you are staying with us.
Afternoon Tea is served Monday to Saturday 14.00 - 16.00
Two old schoolpals enjoyed such a great weekday lunch at the 1935 rooftop restaurant - with superb food and faultless service, plus stunning views - that we've booked a return for the pre-Christmas festive lunch.
Came here for dinner last night with a group of 6 of us and a 4 year old. Staff were incredibly accommodating right from booking on Facebook to the whole meal yesterday. So child friendly, polite and helpful. We were sat in our own area with a door out to the terrace! (This wasn't extra cost!) Had a Sunday roast and kids menu - pizza and fries. Was delicious, 3 courses for £20! Honestly can't recommend this place enough, our first visit and definitely not our last. Thank you for making our evening Perfect, and thank you for delicious food!
A great place for a meal excellent food and great choice available good selection of drinks happy hour is a good touch staff really friendly definitely coming back
wonderfull restaurant thourally enjoyed the view very relaxed atmosphere food was great service was very good
We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
Lovely friendly waitress who seated us - waiter took our order and only downside was I asked what flavor ice cream the chocolate sundae was and was told vanilla so ordered at but when brought up it was chocolate ice cream (wouldn't have ordered it if I knew that) I should have returned it but didn't like to - so probably best the waiter is aware of what is in the sundae
The food was very bland, small portions and not as described on the menu. Very dissapointed
I had previously had afternoon tea with you and was disappointed but not one to give up I thought I would try you again for my birthday afternoon tea with friends. I was very disappointed this time and will not come again.
Service generally very good with knowledgeable and courteous staff. The food was acceptable but not of the best standard - little touches like a hard boiled quail's egg with a grey rim around the yolk (overcooked), undressed rocket, under-seasoned soup. It certainly didn't ruin the experience, but I got the sense the menu is not delivered to the normal Holiday Inn 'spec'.
Special thanks to Anthony on reception and Sup Ghosh in the restaurant for their friendly and outstanding service. Both made us feel very welcome and Anthony in particular went out of his way to accommodate our demands for water and sweets at 1am!!
we all enjoyed the food. and the suroundings. my only little complaint was that two of are party ordered two cups of tea at the end of the meal. they did not come so we told the waitress who said she would sort it out. we waited a further ten minutes and nothing arrived finally i spoke to the resturant manger that we had not recived the tea that we ordered two times .and it did arrive. but it did not put a damper on are evening and would be quite happy to go again...
Fantastic lunch, made to feel welcome as we're the children. Best sausage and mash I've ever had! Great attentive service, and lovely views. Highly recommend!
Slightly disorganised service at dinner in the restaurant but lovely food. Excellent comfy bed, large room
Lovely relaxing lunch, great quality food, great views. Great value for money -would definitely go back
Staff were very friendly patient and attentive. Food was great and a great time was had by all.
Excellent food, great view across the airport
Great food and service. Canadian waitress was so helpful. We all enjoyed the atmosphere and it was special treat when the Spitfire took off, buzzed around the field and then landed. My 91 year old mother thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and the Spitfire was a special treat as she served in the RAF during the war. Thank you all.
We had a lovely afternoon. Tge nicest part was that we were not rushed and there was no pressure out on us to order any additional products. Thank you very much will definatly recommend xx
first visit and fantastic experience
Lovely meal, good atmosphere and great service. Will definitely go back.
We have visited the 1935 Restaurant several times and have always had a lovely time. Attentive but not intrusive staff, impeccable service and delicious food. I would highly recommend this restaurant, even if you don't like flying!
As always tasty hot food - service is spot on - never fails to impress
