Lovely Hotel, very picturesque, background music torturous though! Made to feel welcome and happy that my aunts little dog was allowed to sit with us, comfy furniture. Classic afternoon tea for 5. About two sandwiches each, very poor, fillings, apart from the smoked salmon, very dull and tasteless. Loads of cakes, most were too "fancy" for our taste, our children didn't eat any apart from the scones. Would like to have been given the choice of more sandwiches or cake, for £25 a head, think we deserved that option. £17 odd service charge horrendous, how do you justify that???? Our bill was £155, happy to pay that in your restaurant for a delicious meal but this was not great for afternoon tea, sorry.
Very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere for afternoon tea
Love the new look/refurb. Unfortunately after a really smashing tea we where overcharged, but as we were the hosts did not mention it. We were charged £2 too much for the champagne on each glass. Too many servers serving us and.mixed.messages. Service charge was rather steep too. But overall a nice experience.
I was given a champagne afternoon tea as a gift, so unable to comment on value for money, but we certainly had a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon. The staff were friendly and attentive but not overly fussy which was perfect. We were not hurried along and they were happy to bring us more hot drinks and jam. The new decor is very stylish and comfortable, so all in all, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. I would definitely recommend it!
I have sent an email informing you of our disappointing experience .
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to coming again We will be recommending it to are friends Thanks again
Afternoon tea outstanding. New menu for autumn delicious and helpful team. Could have been better informed on new menu as were learning on day and vague initially. Very friendly however and attentive. Lounge area quiet so lacking atmosphere but beautiful decor and lovely chairs to escape into! Great
On arrival for our afternoon tea for 4, on approach to the bar to inform a member of staff of our arrival and of our booking, another member of staff at the end of the bar was informed and without an audible word and a flapping hand gesture to follow the staff member we made the assumption that we were to follow them to our table. Once we had sat down we were asked what we would like without a mention of the menu or options available. We had a classic afternoon tea which arrived promptly and the food was of a very good standard. However with the table filled with two pots of tea, another pot of decaffinated tea, plates and all the cups there was no further room for the two tiers of cake and sandwiches plus the jam and cream stands, with that one of the party I was with suggested another table might be needed and so we had to drag a table over to our table to give us enough space for the waiter holding the tiers to be able to place them down. No spoons were available for the jam or cream or for the small glass of raspberry dessert which formed part of the afternoon tea, plus one of our cups was broken which we then had to find a member of serving staff to provide us with these basics, which once asked did arrive promptly. There was no return of serving staff to ensure we were ok during our visit and whether we required anything else. Unfortunately the attitude and lack of warm service from the team made the experience a little underwhelming and disappointing, however the food was of a very good standard.
Highly recommend a stay at The Lygon Arms
The service was adequate but not good. The table was too small for our party. No hot water was offered for the tea. No sugar provided. It was certainly not value for money.
I booked afternoon tea as a thank you treat for my parents.I reserved a table with sofa and high back chairs in the lovely refurbished Russell Room. From the moment we arrived (and had our car valet parked) to the moment we left, we could not find fault with the service, the excellent food, the lovely relaxed ambience and professionalism and friendliness of the staff. I am particularly hard to please it must be said and have been fortunate to have enjoyed afternoon tea at The Ritz and Dorchester to name a few. Here at The Lygon Arms it was faultless and I look forward to an occasion when I can relive the experience. Thank you to all at The Lygon.
Excellent Day, Everything perfect
I did not like the decor (orange couches particularly), the music or the fact that the staff were dressed in jeans and the fact that as I was having tea I was having to listen to their personal discussions at the bar. The peace, beauty and traditional look of the outside of the building was not at all reflected in the interior, which felt like an attempt to be hip. Not what I expected in the Coswolds.
We were very disappointed and even more disappointed in not receiving a reply to our complaint letter
Lovely food and service but please NOT IN A COCKTAIL BAR with music. Not in nice setting with lovely settees and relaxing atmosphere. Disappointed as Christmas present .
I was very greatful for the way in which the afternoon tea was personalised at short notice to mark a special occasion. Great staff!
Nice room in the old house, unfortunately renovations were in progress so leisure facilities were unavailable. Drinks slightly pricey, staff very friendly
Afternoon tea was good but not offered a variety of teas, and nobody explained what we would have and when got the feeling the bar girl serving us was not that interested in afternoon tea
