About Morgans Bar
Morgan's Bar Afternoon Tea
It took nearly 5 phones calls and numerous online chats to make the booking for high tea on Saturday 19th Sept for our parents 50th wedding anniversary. We arrived promptly at 2.30pm, sat down and ready to give our drinks orders (to accompany the high tea that had been pre-booked). I remember looking at the big clock at reception (we were sat near the Carden library area) at 2.45pm. Our drinks came out very promptly but we waited until after 3.25pm for our afternoon teas to arrive. I appreciate everything was delicious and freshly made but but over 30 minutes is a long time to wait, especially since our drinks (tea/latte's) were now finished ! I then ordered an additional 2 sandwiches (off the menu) and we waited another 30 minutes for these. I do believe the kitchen and the drinks bar should be in sync. If I've pre-ordered a high tea for 2.30pm, I would expect once seated to have my tea and cake within 25 - 30 minutes of sitting down not over 45 minutes. It really needs better planning - especially since we pre-booked.
Cakes with a smooth filling (fruit tart and banoffee) weren't set properly. Waitress didn't seem to know the menu. She advised us that there were no black teas, just 'normal tea' (builders') which is a black tea! I would expect afternoon tea service to offer a selection of black teas (e.g. Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Assam, Afternoon or English Breakfast as a minimum). Waitress also didn't know what any of the cakes were, although my sandwich dietary requests were accommodated.
Wonderful afternoon in such a beautiful setting , lovely little treat for my girls . Thank you for having us Carden park
Service not good. We weren't asked if we wanted white or rose wine, if we wanted it before, with or after our food. No explanation of food served and if we were happy with all the options. However lovely selection of food and lovely place.
We booked in for afternoon tea and whilst it was OK it wasn't anything to write home about. The Sandwiches were good, the scones where a bit dry and the cakes were, poor. The cheese cake had no flavour and was an odd texture, it was like half the ingredients where missing. The Carrot Cake was sopping wet! But the chocolate cake was ok. Feedback from those that had the bubbly was that it was sour in an unexpected and not overly pleasant way. The atmosphere at the venue was odd. There was a very nice pianist playing what was supposed to be background incidental music, but was actually so loud and dominating that we couldn't hear the people sat the other side of the table from us that we come to spend time with. Added to that there was a big screen playing football which no one in the room was paying any attention to, and it created a recipe for audio overload. The gap between the tables and chairs was absolutely huge, so it split the group in two! The young gentleman that was serving us was very unsure of himself and clearly needed a helping hand and more support from his seniors, but he was polite.
The team made us feel very welcome and our server was excellent. The whole afternoon tea was a wonderful experience, from the delicious finger sandwiches to the exquisite little cakes. We will definitely be returning soon.
Excellent afternoon tea, lovely place , friendly helpful team
Staff are always pleasant and accommodating.
The Orangery is a lovely setting for Afternoon Tea. Staff were really friendly and efficient and made us feel welcome.
Price for afternoon tea expensive for what you have
Staff were awesome. Really took good care of us. Thanks very much for making our 10th anniversary so special.
Staff very friendly, accommodating and professional which is lacking in many places. Lovely setting; the afternoon tea was lovely and enjoyed by my friend and myself. Nice end to our spa day. Looking forward to returning and trying the new spa facility.
Sorry it’s taken so long! We had a lovely meal and the waitress was very helpful. Made all the more special as it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we had a lovely, surprise dessert as an anniversary treat. Thank you so much!
Loved it , left a review on Facebook straight away - beautiful afternoon
Service very slow. Despite booking in advance, felt we were invisible to staff. A special birthday celebration did not feel special.
We asked for no seafood and recived salmon sandwiches. The quality of the sandwiches were not great. The cakes were okay however, I would say the price charged is not representative of the quality of the food. I’m sorry it’s not positive however, I would rather be honest.
Had a lovely afternoon tea. Hope to return again soon
Excellent Service, very professional and also very friendly from the young gentlemen at the bar to the lady who waited on us and it all tasted and looked beautiful
Staff were marvellous. Very welcoming and attentive. Beautiful surroundings and lovely afternoon tea.
We all had a lovely experience, thankyou.
My wife and I regularly have afternoon teas so we feel well qualified to pass constructive criticism. This was a special occasion with my twin sister and 87 year old parents and Carden Park Hotel seemed a perfect venue for afternoon tea. Firstly, whilst I cannot fault the venue, it came as a shock to see people wandering around the lounge area in white robes and slippers detracted from the grandeur of our occasion. I believe it is reasonable that guests frequenting the spa facilities should be encouraged to be respectful of the other guests and dress suitably in public places. Secondly, the quality of the food was excellent but the quantity, three finger sandwiches each was derisory and poor value for money at £20 each. Principally, for these two reasons we would not return or recommend Carden Park Hotel to others. Kind regards David Lester
Disappointed with the service. Asked for remaining cakes to be boxed up ( this has been done in the past with no problem) . Had to wait 30 minutes only to be given pieces of foil which we had to cut up ourselves . Once served the afternoon tea nobody came to check and ask if we wanted more tea etc. On the whole poor value for money
Excellent value, staff very accommodating.
Had afternoon tea, where as food was lovely we thought it was lacking in service and could have done with small spoons for the panacotta desert, ate light lunch in Vines, food was superb, service great
