About Mr Fogg's Tavern & Gin Parlour
The Tavern on the ground floor will be open from 11am till midnight and will serve honest fare complemented by Fogg’s family brewed pale and best ales in oak barrels, cloudy English cider, grog and a small seasonal selection of cocktails served in traditional tankards and pewter cups.
In contrast, the first floor will maintain the original Gin Parlour and Salon of Mr Fogg's late Aunt Gertrude. Mr Fogg’s aunt was quite the high profile stage actress in her day, so prepare for an eccentric mix of theatrical memorabilia including busts adorned with wigs, stage props and old scripts. Mr Fogg will, of course, be adding some of his residence’s decor of maps, stuffed animals and worldly treasures to ensure
he feels at home and in comfort when the downstairs folly becomes too much.
Afternoon Tea is served every Saturday at 2.01pm
The drinks were nice and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the gin. The cream cakes were delicious and just the right amount. I felt that our welcome was a little hurried and didn't match the website or email correspondence. The seating arrangements are a bit of style over substance - tiny chairs, sofas and tables to everyone felt a bit cramped in. Otherwise the decor and parlour feel were good fun.
A really enjoyable couple of hours, I would definitely recommend it but I did think it was a little expensive (unless you booked through another site) Staff all stayed in character and interacted well with the "guests". The food was tasty but not not sure as to its Victorian authenticity. Biggest grip, not being told that the on arrival drink would be an extra charge until presented with the bill.
The Gluten free option was one of the best we have ever had - the bread for the sandwiches was delicious, the scones were 'sconey' and the cakes were scrumptious, in no way second class to the glutenous fare! The host was amazing and made the experience fun and not just another afternoon tea and the gin cocktails were delicious!
Initially had to share a table with another couple which felt awkward before we were able to move to our own table which was much appreciated
Had a brilliant time. Something completely different.
This place has the most amazing ambiance! And I will 100% be making a trip back here. The only issue we had was we hadn’t quite anticipated spending so much money. Definitely the type of place to go after pay day.
We had a fantastic time. The staff made sure you had everything you needed.
One small gripe. We were shown to a table which we had to share with another couple, which was odd as there were plenty of tables for two available. Fortunately we made easy conversation and had a good time. However, if you weren’t feeling particularly sociable this could prove awkward. As a courtesy it would be nice to be asked your seating preference on arrival.
There's so many choices on the menu which I wanted to try. I will definitely go back. Must say the cost does add up, so definitely can't try out all the cocktails at once!
Lovely staff and atmosphere. Food a little on the dinky side for the price though.
First visit and will definitely go again. Quirky old fashioned pub. Small but not too busy so if you want to guarantee a table book. We went before a theatre visit it’s a great location.
Great staff, great place!
My friends and I had a lovely hour at Mr Foggs. Delightful atmosphere and setting. Delicious gin drinks and nibbles - the staff were very helpful at advising us on which gin drinks would suit us the best.
The elderflower gin was amazing! I thought the cocktail could have been slightly bigger for value for money as it was so tasty.
Fantastic service and advice on what gins we would like. It was our anniversary and we were given complimentary drinks and an extra cocktail going spare! Great vibe/atmosphere and the drinks were spot on. Made our evening! Thanks D&C xx
The cream cakes and cocktails, that we had were great and good value for money. I very much enjoyed the setting and the theatre links. When looking at the librations cocktail menu I thought the cocktails were on the pricier side but that could be due to the specialist rare gins, I would guess....
We had a lovely evening, our server was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and was able to give excellent recommendations. We will definitely be returning!
This was our second visit to this establishment and as before it was thoroughly enjoyable with excellent service from all of the staff
Having booked a table for 3 people, two of us arrived on time and were seated on a small sofa (would fit 2 children not two adults) and a side stool. My friend sat on the sofa next to me and was immediately advised she would need to move as that table was booked in a rather curt and unfriendly tone. When we asked to move we were shown to a table with two chaise longues however was only able to sit on one side. This meant that there was no space for our bags or for to be able to have a conversation! Having made to already feel uncomfortable we decided to leave as it didnt seem like our custom was welcome. The bouncer however was really friendly and concerned about our poor experience, the rest of the staff could not have cared less.
I bought this experience for friends for Christmas and my husband and I decided to join them. This was a fantastic evening. The ambience was lovely, the service fantastic and the gin tasting fascinating and yummy!!
Cocktails were amazing!
I booked this for my mums birthday surprise and we attended on a Sunday at 1pm. Initial impression of the room was great, such a fun and different atmosphere. Very quirky! We had gin samples on our table and were given tonic, and it might have been good to let us know that we would be tasting these in around 15 minutes as a group - as we drank ours prematurely!! However when the tasting did occur the host gave my mum some extra gin so that was fine. The description of the gins was interesting and the host (don't know name) was good fun. All staff were pleasant and the atmosphere was light-hearted. The teapot of gin 'tea' we felt was quite watery and didn't taste much like gin! We also felt it was a limited selection of flavours with 2 of 3 containing green tea which my mum dislikes. We had debated having the bottomless tea pot and I was glad I didn't pay an extra £30 each for this!! The afternoon tea was OK, not a huge amount but then you're paying for the gin experience really. The quality of the food was decent. I had told them that it was my mums birthday and candles were added to the afternoon tea which was a lovely touch. Overall I'd say this is a fun experience for gin lovers, its not an afternoon tea to rave about, but the atmosphere is not something we had experienced and we enjoyed it.
We had a very good time, to good to be true........the bottomless teapot was going down very nicely!!!
