Wonderful views, atmosphere, food and service.
Excellent service & great food
This was an extremely disappointing experience. I have eaten at the Portrait restaurant on several occasions previously & always found it excellent - the views are amazing, the service good & the food delicious. It seemed the ideal location to meet up with old friends for a long awaited reunion, despite the fact that most of them live considerable distances from London. On this occasion however, the food can only be described as awful. We chose the 2 course menu option. The starters were uninspired & not very tasty. Most of us chose the hanger steak main course. The meat was extremely tough & it was served with 2 rather dried up mushrooms stuffed with a uninspiring filling. The only good thing on the plate was the sauce! One of us chose the risotto option & was equally unhappy, describing it as " just pink rice". I am really sad to give this bad review, as I have always regarded the Portrait restaurant as a very special place to eat & it has been my first choice for special celebrations. Now I would definitely think twice before returning.
It is always fun to go to the portrait gallery and there is always a warm welcome from the excellent staff. The food is wonderful too and the wine list equal to the food. I am a bit worried if I go on too long, too many people will hear about the NPG restaurant and I might not get a table -
Always a great experience to visit the restaurant. I brought two friends who had never been before - they loved it!
Excellent venue, excellent food
it is so lovely to be able to go to the restaurant after seeing a wonderful exhibition and enjoy a meal or a drink while overlooking London. It is a very special place.
Visited for lunch. Nice skyline nice service and lovely food
What can wonderful way to celebrate my partner's birthday. Highly recommended.
Head waiter and waiter very friendly and attentive
Amazing brunch with a very attentive and friendly service. It was a special occasion for my family and the staff were very accommodating.
What a wonderful way to start a cultural Sunday! 4 of us planned a visit to the gallery and decided to have brunch first The service was exemplary, the food exquisite We will definitely be back
The food, drinks, and the quality of your staff, their efficiency and friendliness, were of the highest standard. Thankyou.
As a starter I had the beetroot salad. The beetroot had and acid taste as if they had been marinated or preserved in vinegar. For my main I had fish cakes. They tasted too floury. The potatoes you used were too floury or you put flour in the mix. Either way it was not a pleasant taste. One of our party had the fish cakes as well and had the same comment.
Lovely venue for lunch with girlfriends
The food was superb. My 84 year old Parkinsonian father was incredibly well attended to by both Julian and Matthieu. Special credit must go to both for making him feel entirely at ease and making him smile more than he has in a long time. I truly appreciated all the efforts that the staff made to ensure his comfort and happiness. It means a great deal and we will absolutely be visiting again. PS. His comment to me as we were leaving was "If they treat us like this, shall we come again, tomorrow?!" (Sure enough - I am here again doing work whilst enjoying your lovely food and drink & being attended to by your incredible staff - keep up the good work!) Thanks so much
A fantastic lunch on a very special day. Thank you.
The food was below average and overpriced. It really is all about the view. We have eaten here five or six times, but will not be returning.
My roast grouse with trimmings was fabulous - the best restaurant meal I have eaten in a very long time, if ever. My companions choices not quite at that level but still excellent. I am no connoisseur of wine but it seemed v good Waiters friendly, helpful, service prompt. Nice atmosphere and a wonderful view over London. Congratulations !
Fantastic lunch: friendly, professional service; superb food and a terrific atmosphere. Added to which an amazing view over the rooftops - so highly recommended.
An excellent experience for a lunch time gathering, lovely staff, great atmosphere, super food with a great selection on the menu and good value for money, would book again and recommend to friends
We truly enjoyed our afternoon at The Portrait Restaurant. The food and view were amazing and your staff did an excellent job tending to or needs.
We booked here for a friends 60th Birthday and can recommend the afternoon tea which was excellent, specially because we did have dietary requirements which were catered for. The service was excellent. Would recommend to friends.
