I celebrated my Birthday with my sister and a friend we all had excellent meals in a wonderful atmosphere -following on by the excellent Gainsborough Exhibtion.
Had a very good lunch there yesterday. Really appreciated not being rushed. Very good food and service.
I had a superb Dover Sole; perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and promt but not inyrusive. Table by the winfow was a bonus.
Great place for afternoon tea (delicious treats and tea, very attentive service and beautiful views).
I had an excellent Sunday meal with Dutch visitors. i wanted to show them good food and the vewi. thank you for picking up during the meal that it was my cousins's birthday and providing a cookie and candle. i had not thought to mention it in advance.
This is one of our favourite places for lunch. Service is always good. Atmosphere is great. Our food yesterday was 'OK' but not as good as usual. The vegetarian options were acceptable but not particularly adventurous or memorable. One of our party did not have his first choice available which was little disappointing given we were on an early lunch sitting and he wanted the chicken. Please don't let your standards slip! The view is good but not that good without the food!!
Excellent Service. Fantastic ambience Thank you for not incorporatng background music! There was a wonderful buzz - people enjoying an excellent Sunday lunch and Tea - great atmosphere.
Loved the whole meal! The staff is darling.
Thank you for providing a very welcome oasis of calm amidst London Christmas shopping madness!
The service was fantastic and it is in a really nice setting too!
I really appreciated the service I received and the food was lovely.
We had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was brilliant from the moment we arrived at 2pm until we left at 4.30pm; a real, happy buzz. The view over London is great, and a table by the window was the place to be. The service was the best: attentive, no over-familiarity, and no being asked all the time if everything is alright. I was a little disappointed with the food, however. We had the set 3-course menu. For me, the combination of flavours in my starter of smoked salmon with a mustard sauce, parsley, set on pink grapefruit segments, really didn’t work. I thought the little duck breasts in my main course had a slightly unusual flavour, too. The additional side serving of sprouts with chestnuts was exceptional, though, and the highlight of the meal. My quaking pudding with slices of pickled apple was delicious. The 3-course set menu is presented as costing £33, but with vegetables, a bottle of sparkling water, a pot of tea to finish, the voluntary service charge of 12.5% and a voluntary £1 donation to the Portrait Fund, it came to £50 per person. The blurb describes the servings as generous, but I couldn't agree. A wonderful occasion because of the location, atmosphere and service, but with a slightly disappointing meal for my taste. I would return, though, without hesitation.
Our waiter was exemplary: Patient, considerate, nothing felt like too much trouble. We were so impressed. The atmosphere too was delightful. Thank you to everyone who helped make our lunch at Portrait Restaurant so special
food well prepared, good quality and well served, Portions of main dishes somewhat too large. Position of tables affects atmosphere, some for 2 in inferior positions with only a wall to look at and near the service area for cutlery etc. very disappointing! Staff efficient and courteous.
Delightful lunch. Having a choice of vegetarian dishes on the set menu was great. The parsnip and potato rosti was sublime. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful which made our visit more special.
The setting, service and food all wonderful. Would highly recommend we will be returning.
Lunch service was less than average so we requested the discretionary service charge to be removed. The young waitor then asked why and then proceeded to challenge us in a confrontational manner. It was quite extraordinary and left us both surprised and disappointed. Very unlikely to return and will not recommend to friends and colleagues.
Lovely food and atmosphere. Great views .Service was great. Friendly staff. Made to feel welcome. Will be back.
We were short of time, just under and hour to dine pre-theatre. From the hostess on the door to the wait-staff , even if not assigned to our table, showed us the greatest attention possible and got our evening off to a great start. Thank you.
Thanks for a great meal. We had fabulous service in a lovely atmosphere. We had the lunchtime 2 course deal. All delicious.
Just lovely. Delicious food in delightful surroundings, excellent service. Only thing is the accoustics - gets very noisy but adds to the atmosphere.
We chose from the set luncheon menu. Every item on the menu was appetising. We had three courses. Beautifully prepared and presented and absolutely delicious. High quality but affordable. Pleasant and memorable venue but no bar which we would have liked. Bar being used for diners.
Noisy but perhaps not unusual this time of year.
Vegeterian option for teatime is missing
