The Angel Hotel is an AA Four Silver Star hotel located in Abergavenny town centre.
The Angel has been named AA Hotel of The Year, Wales 2016/17.
Built in 1829 as a coaching inn, this traditional hotel, decorated with contemporary artworks, is a one-minute walk from Abergavenny Castle and Museum, and an eight-minute walk from Linda Vista Gardens.
Enjoy an informal lunch or evening meal in our Oak Room, where we offer three courses for £28.00 or choose from our à la carte menu. The Wedgewood room is open for breakfast and our award-winning high teas.
High tea is served Monday to Friday 14.00 - 16.00 & Saturday - Sunday 14.00 - 17.30
Snacks are served all day in our Foxhunter bar, however, reservations are not taken for the bar area.
A truly wonderful afternoon tea in every sense- from service to the quality of the food and surroundings. Highly recommended.
HD high tea. Lovely but not worth 31.00. Plus the fact I booked at 30.00 but then charged 31.00
Very friendly and helpful staff couldn’t do enough for us
Took my mother and Great Aunt as well as my children and granddaughter we all really enjoyed it Thank you
Fantastic high tea, exceptional service, would definitely recommend!
The best afternoon tea in South Wales, hands down. Lovely attentive service, beautiful room and ambience. Super fresh sandwiches, gorgeous cakes and perfect scones. The staff are lovely, friendly and professional. Well done The Angel Hotel.
It was a fabulous tea, felt spoilt!
As usual an excellent afternoon tea. I find that the food is tastier than many of the high end London hotels. The fact that you can take home anything leftover extends the pleasure! The trifle was light and delicious. Staff attentive and charming. No wonder we come back when we can
A special thank you to Patrick and all the Wedgewood Room staff for their attention to our table while we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday.
Impeccable service, amazing selection of fresh savoury and sweet items, wonderful ambience, a really special experience!
The staff were lovely, particularly our waiter, a French gentleman (didn’t get his name)
Festive afternoon tea has become an annual event for my husband and I. We absolutely love this little festive treat. Such superb service and delicious food and drink it’s a must in our calendar.
Perfect in every way. Best place for Afternoon tea.
Fabulous afternoon tea! Every time I visit it’s perfect! From the lovely professional attentive staff, to the delicious mouth watering savoury & sweet treats. Nothing is too much trouble, dietary & allergen preferences perfectly taken care of. I’ve had many afternoon teas, including The Ritz in London & recently The Plaza in New York but I can honestly say you are by far THE BEST! 5* Well done & thank you very much for a lovely visit. I’ll be back again very soon x
The wedgewood Room is very elegant . A perfect atmosphere to enjoy a very nice high tea. Highly recommended.
This is the second time I've had High Tea at The Angel with different family members of all ages. Each time the service has been amazing and the attention to detail very good. I have pre-ordered gluten-free vegetarian food each time and have been delighted with the selection provided. This makes such a huge difference - many places don't make so much effort to provide really lovely and imaginative alternations to the cakes, pastries and savoury options. This above all is why I'd return to The Angel even though the High Tea might be more expensive than other places. I love High Tea as a special celebratory treat and have had them in many places but The Angel is my favourite so far because of the care that goes into the gluten-free options. Thank you.
Only small disappointment was having said we would have our cream and jam scones at home (tea so filling) - we opened the box to find the scones but no cream or jam!
First time visit. Somehow, they knew it was my birthday, so they brought a cake with candle in it too and "Happy Birthday" in chocolate on the dish. I was pleasantly surprised & pleased with the whole experience. Needs to be repeated! Need to treat someone else to'# it also on a Birthday.
We have come every year for many years but I’m afraid to say yesterday was not a good experience. The price for the tea itself has gone up, £30 for a bottle of Prosecco is extortionate, and the service was awful and atmosphere lacking - no music or anything special as in previous years. We will not come back next year.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read you were disappointed with your high tea experience this year. I hope this has not married your impression of The Angel and we can welcome you back in the future.
Service was excellent as always - we were full from the sandwiches, pastries and cakes and this was before we realised we also had scones to eat too! The staff were happy to box up what was left for us to take home, and happy for us to try different teas. Nothing was too much trouble. We visit once a year for afternoon tea and it never disappoints!
A very enjoyable afternoon we were well looked after as always. Afternoon tea in the Angel is always the treat to look forward to and enjoy Thank you 👏
Absolutely amazing Afternoon Tea with terrific service.
There was a great deal of noise coming from the floor above. It sounded like there was a dance class or event going on on the floor above. This was very distracting and loud and detracted from the atmosphere. The service was good, but not very good or great. The waiters did not hold doors open for guests as they came in and out of the from or even allow guests to proceed before them when making their way out of the room. Being used to service in London o am used to doors being held open and waiters allowing guests to go before them when making their way to and from tables.
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read you were disturbed by noise coming from the Ballroom above whist having tea. I am disappointed to read the waiters were not opening doors for our guests. This is most certainly not acceptable and will be addressed. I hope this has not marred your impression of The Angel and we can welcome you back in the near future.
Great food and even better service! Staff were extremely attentive and caring. Well worth the money.
Another fabulous afternoon tea at The Angel. This time to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. The service is always second to none. Don't be fooled by the dainty and delicious petite savouries and cakes. The portions are more than ample and I've never finished a tea. However the staff are happy to pop what you don't eat in a lovely little box to take home. I've had afternoon tea in a number of other places but none compare to The Angel for quality of food, excellent customer service and lovely surroundings.
