Have a bite to eat; our all day menu is designed for that very purpose. Eat in the snug, cosy comfort of the library or on the sunny terrace on warmer days. It’s a place for any occasion and will satisfy any whim.

A thoroughly enjoyable and tasty meal, in a pleasant atmosphere with excellent service
Steak rather tough.
Superb hotel. Great attention to detail by all of your staff. An absolute delight. Would certainly stay again.
We ate in the restaurant on a Sunday evening when, inevitably, it was much quieter than might otherwise be the case, so it would be unfair to imply too much criticism of the 3 star rating for "atmosphere". The room is pleasant and inviting - if the restaurant were full it would be a very pleasant place to eat. Two specific points (i) the muzak is awful and too loud- Johnny Cash over dinner is not my idea of relaxation (and the same tape over breakfast the next day (ii) if you're asking people to spend £50+ on some wines you need to provide the year of vintage - that will (in some, if not all) cases help to inform the decision as to what to order.
The restaurant staff were very pleasant and efficient
Our room was beautiful, the evening meal and the breakfast were excellent and the staff were lovely. Julie even went the extra mile by finding out the manufacturer of one of the bedroom fabrics for us! Thank you to all of the staff, we will be back.
very happy with all aspects of our stay
Highly recommend this hotel, the food is amazing the staff are incredible and the hotel is spotlessly clean, best night sleep I have ever had in a hotel, as I can't normally sleep away from home and always take my own pillow!! The bed is incredibly comfortable and pillows are the best ever, I have actually asked where they get them from so that I can buy some for myself. Fabulous holiday, we will definitely come back here. Thank you for such a stress free wonderful holiday :)
Fabulous food! Exceptionally busy Saturday evening and the whole staff worked together to keep the momentum going. Despite how busy it wad, courses were served without gaps, drinks to table were immediately supplied. The bar was still full when we left and ALL hands were on deck making it happen.
The food at the restaurant was excellent. The 'Jacobian' room was small and stuffy. We had to open the window at night, which is fine, except that there was a row of pigeons just outside that window cooing all night. We found it difficult to sleep.
We had afternoon tea and a lovely experience.
The Close is such a lovely place to stay with beautiful rooms, excellent food and such friendly and helpful staff. Set in a very interesting building, the rooms are very individual with tasteful décor. The atmosphere is relaxed and homely. We felt that we had experienced a very memorable stay in a hotel where nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to everyone at The Close.
WHY DO YOU KEEP CONTACTING ME ABOUT THIS, I'M MICHAEL GREEN, NOT ALAN GREEN, YOU KEEP USING MY NAME AND E-MAIL ADDRESS, I PHONED YOU BEFORE AND YOU SAID IT WAS SORTED, OBVIOUSLY NOT !! , I'VE EVEN HAD TO CONTACT MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY ALSO !! , CONTACT THE RIGHT PERSON.
I object to tips (sorry, gratuities) being added automatically to the bill, and having to opt out rather than make a positive decision to make such an additional payment. I had this removed from my bill but left a cash consideration instead, but this was MY choice, at my discretion. The menu did not offer one, two or three courses as in days of old at The Close, although there was choice available for each course it would be preferable to choose just two courses, particularly at lunchtime.Frankly, although the food was OK, it was not exceptional and not of a particularly high standard.
Beautiful hotel with friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly recommended
Very nice hotel, beautiful garden, excellent food and service. Great location on the High Street.
Really impressed with the Table D'Hote menus; especially good value was the fish and chip Tuesday night with a bottle of wine.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Close from start to finish. Room, ambience, communal areas and garden all very relaxing. Food and service good quality. Highly recommended.
A really lovely experience - cocktails in the beautiful garden followed by a delicious Sunday lunch. Thank you
Delicious lunch in a beautiful location with very friendly staff
Noisy bathrooms in newly furbished annexe spoilt sleep. Disorganised service.
Great place, need say no more Peter and Sally
Thoroughly lovely stay, (delightful visit to Highgrove included) pleasant helpful staff, any housekeeping problem (hot tap only trickling) dealt with efficiently within minutes. Will recommend to all my friends and family and hope to visit again soon.
It would be better if the paint colours were changed to a lighter colour as the rooms were dark.
Lovely lunch in a beautiful setting . The food was perfect apart from one of the desserts- an overly elaborate Eton Mess, served with only a smidgen of cream ,which they kindly deducted from the bill . Our only comment was that the service on arrival was a little abrupt . The waitress appeared to be keen to take our food order before she offered any pre lunch drinks. Not only was this a missed opportunity to upsell but it made us feel as though she was in a rush to get lunch over and done with as quickly as possible . However during meal she was very pleasant and efficient. We will be back......
