About The Dabbling Duck
The Dabbling Duck pub was opened in 2006 as the result of a tireless community action group and a far-sighted local authority's 6 year campaign to prevent the beautiful old building (previously the Rose and Crown pub) from being converted into housing.
The Dabbling Duck now plays a vital part in the heart of the local community and is a focal point for the village. The owners regularly eat and drink at the pub with their friends and colleagues.
Always good when we come here. 3
It was fabulous - the best meal out I have had in months. Everyone helpful and friendly and I felt safe. Thank you.
Really lovely food, great service and very family friendly.
Picturesque setting and lunch to match!
We had a really comfortable stay. Staff were helpful & so welcoming. As we mentioned to Sally on check out we will come back in the spring/early summer Covid permitting and will bring our family. Thanks to all at the DD for making our stay memorable.
Great food and atmosphere. A lovely lunch time meal.
Our server was excellent. Brilliant with our kids. Great food and service. Hope to be back again soon.
Awesome and thank you.
Service was terrible, food mediocre, We were told kids meals were tiny by waitress so ordered adults mea for my 9 yr old, portion was massive and twice the price of kids meal, he ate a third of it (fish batter wasn’t that nice and chips were wedges not chips). My burger was dripping with fat, felt really stodgy with the brioche. My husband couldn’t work out if he had potato on his dish (?!) - he asked, and was told probably yes, he wasn’t convinced (hence asking!) and had to ask to see the potato, as he was curious, Turned out he did have potato and they charged us £2 extra for the extra piece of potato, on a £100 meal, this seems really petty and was the last straw. Poor service and not the best food, Big disappointment, Manager wasn’t all that bothered.
Great food and service.
We love coming and are always well looked after
Feedback based on experience Oct 20 during Vivid safe conditions. Felt very safe staff very aware of procedures. Booking online was easy and comments re: our parties specific requirements were met. Made to feel very welcome despite a very nervous but excited puppy being a party member. Food was excellent drink choices were endless and the Dabbling Ducks own gin was a triumph of citrus tangy goodness.
Very limited menu. What we ate was mediocre very average pub grub. We won’t be recommending our friends to visit.
Loved it, I now want to move to Great Massingham
Would be nice to have more options for vegan deserts
Best Sunday lunch we've ever had and the staff did everything to make our first visit a good one. we give our thanks to All the staff. We have recommended the duck to everyone already and will see you again soon. Yours sincerely Frank Wheaton Dereham Norfolk
Great stay and fantastic roasts
Had a great dinner with our kids at the Dabbling Duck - great food and atmosphere. Our favourite pub on our Norfolk trip.
Lovely Pub, Lovely Staff
In the present climate It’s tricky to get the right balance of keeping everyone safe while maintaining a good atmosphere but our restaurant experience felt like you’ve got it just right. Well done Sally and Mark and everyone at the Dabbling Duck.
Had been here before a few years ago . Set in the quaint little village of Great Massingham the pub sits on the village green with views of the duck pond . A great menu ( like the extra options for dietary needs GF, DF, Vegetarian and Vegan ) offering pub favourites as well as some slightly adventurous items too . I had the roast pumpkin with buckwheat and fig ( really lovely textures and flavour ) plus a side of seasonal veg (cauliflower, peas and kale) My partner opted for the classic fish and chips . Extremely reasonably priced and all very tasty . Dare I say , portions could be smaller though , my partner had the chips , looked like two baking potatoes chipped for one person . . Also had dessert a take on After eight , consisting of aerated chocolate, mint patisserie and chocolate mousse, was gorgeous and well constructed, but again , even sharing couldn’t finish it. Recommended for a spot of tasty lunch in this Beautiful part of Norfolk , but go hungry as portions are hearty !
We had a lovely evening and the food was excellent
Too hot. When asked if we wanted pudding and we said no just the bill please it would have been nice if the bill came
A good all round pub. Will definitely go again. Friendly helpful staff and Covid measures in place. Reduced menu but food quality good. Would have liked sweet potato fries with the more Asian inspired burgers and starters.
A lovely setting for dinner, however, there was a number of very drunk and noisy people next to us just having drinks whilst we were having dinner at 7pm which wasn't so great. The staff seemed very busy so service was a bit slow, and the food whilst it was good, was very expensive for the size. I asked the waitress what one of the desserts entailed and she said 'it's fancy I don't really know'. Which was a bit of a surprise! Overall I do think covid has impacted the experience and therefore its not all on the pub, but I did feel that staff could have been more accommodating and the portion sizes reviewed.
