About The Dining Room at Walwick Hall
The Dining Room
Our classically trained Head Chef takes traditional dishes and gives them a modern twist; elevating them to something memorable, distinct and uniquely flavoursome.
We use classic ingredients from the traditional Northumbrian Larder-locally farmed beef and lamb as well as fresh vegetables from our own kitchen garden.
Breakfast, lunch, early supper and dinner are all served in The Dining Room which has its own distinctive ambience. Afternoon Tea is served in the comfort of our Drawing Room in front of a roaring fire, or a large bay window which overlooks the beautiful Northumberland countryside.
The Drawing Room
Enjoy a drink or afternoon tea whilst you take in exceptional views of the Tyne Valley across the hall’s terrace.
We serve both a traditional English afternoon tea, and a Northumberland version, full of local favourites, as well – with sandwiches, scones and classic pastries, freshly prepared by the pastry team at Walwick.
Afternoon Tea is served Monday - Saturday 13:00 - 16.00 & Sunday 16.00 - 18.00 (Must be booked at least 24 hours in advance)
All tables of 8 or more will be charged a discretionary 10% service charge.
Lovely atmosphere, fantastic staff who know how to deliver excellent customer service. Food a little disappointing on this visit - pork was undercooked, fatty and bloody (and another member of our party had a lot of fat attached to their beef). Pork was taken away with good grace- but I think the undercooked slices got microwaved so became a bit rubbery! Staff and ambiance make the experience so we will be back but have taken a star off for the food.
Lovely afternoon tea .....in every way!
Would like to see a “daily special” on menu or a “ rolling change “ on menu for those staying more than two nights. Quality of food and presentation very good. Early evening menu appreciated for those who prefer to eat earlier.
Fabulous as ever, thank you
This is the 3rd time we have had afternoon tea at the dinning room . We were sorry to see the silver tea pots no longer used. Sandwiches on a plate . Not overly keen on the selection of cake . I fully understand that the chefs want to try new things and you can't please everyone all the time .staff were friendly but busy with a large noisy party in the new room so food was walked past us to serve them . It was also my birthday and my mother in laws birthday . I did tell the person I spoke to when I booked . It made no difference as nothing was mentioned. The setting is beautiful the building is beautiful the gardens are fabulous. We were just a bit disappointed. Jen Parry
staff are really friendly and attentive. good to be able to sit outside after meal to enjoy our wine in the sunshine
Really enjoyed our afternoon. Relaxed atmosphere in beautiful surroundings and a delicious afternoon tea. Will be making a return visit Many thanks
We hired the Garden room for a private function. The staff made sure everything ran smoothly, the food was delicious and the relaxed atmosphere ensured we all enjoyed our evening.
We celebrated our daughters birthday with eight friends. We were given our own space in the lounge to welcome our guests and have a drink. The meal and service were amazing especially as we discovered last minute that one of our guests had a fish allergy. The kitchen staff pulled out all the stops to accommodate this and we had a great menu choice and returned empty plates after each course! We and the feelings of the rest of our party would that we certainly would be back.
Fantastic meal with wonderful service. Sandra is a treasure. Will certainly return.
We all really enjoyed our afternoon tea with you and hopefully we will see you again
Visited on Wednesday for lunch in a group of 24 with the Jaguar XK Club. We had pre-lunch drinks on the terrace followed by a superb lunch in the dining room. Service was exemplary and the food was delicious. We're very much looking forward to a return visit next year. Our thanks to Chris and team - spot on!
Excellent as usual and the early evening deal is great value.
A lovely relaxed afternoon. A very nice meal with very friendly and attentive service. The setting is beautiful and we were very lucky to see a lovely wedding on the terrace. The piper was magnificent.
Overall an excellent experience! We will be back.
Exquisite meal in lovely surroundings. We loved everything!
Delicious gluten free afternoon tea. The best I've had so far.xx
Our party of six loved everything about this venue - the building itself the beautifully maintained gardens the glorious setting in Northumbrian countryside the delicious food, and it was delightful to be greeted by Laura. To celebrate my sister’s 80th birthday here after a six month delay was a joy and a delight. Thank you
Are here two evenings both meals fabulous
Fabulous. All meals were amazingly tasty and the quality of the ingredients and flavour pairings were beautiful. I loved the buttery hollandaise on the eggs benedict, and the succulent fish and tender meat we both enjoyed in the evening. The room had a lovely relaxed feel and the staff were exceptional and super friendly.
We were extremely lucky to have a beautiful sunny evening & be able to sit out on the terrace and admire the gardens/grounds with an aperitif before dining. The food was superb, Very tasty fish cake starter, trout main course, cooked to perfection, & scrummy deserts. Overall great value at £19.95 for the 3 courses!
We have eaten at Walwick at many different times (lunches, afternoon teas and dinners) and have never had any regrets. The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient; the dining room and lounges are light and airy; the menu is varied; and the food tastes good!
Had a fab evening celebrating our first wedding anniversary!
Enjoyed a very good lunch on the terrace. Delightful views over the tyne valley. We tried the Taittinger champagne which was fresh, crisp and citrusy. Strongly recommend trying this. The food was delicious, including an excellent salmon and crayfish salad, fish and chips, and a very nice sticky toffee pudding. The location, the food and the customer service were all absolutely excellent. The sun drenched terrace is fantastic for lunch or afternoon tea. Strongly recommend.
Ordered the belted galloway fillet steak which is the nicest steak I have eaten. The hotel goes to considerable trouble to make the most superb rich sauces that accompany the food. The meal was outstanding as was the customer service. Can't recommend Walwick Hall highly enough.
