Not good value for money and staff weren’t very attentive
I took my mum here yesterday for mothers day and we were both thoroughly impressed with the food, service and it was great value for money. There was a lovely atmosphere and didn't feel rushed to leave. We will definitely be back.
Portion size was bigger than usual, don’t know if increased due to Mother’s Day menu bring slightly more expensive or due to feedback but portion size was much better. Felt like more staff on too. Staff are always very pleasant but sometimes abit slow. Noticed an improvement on Sunday. Just makes me want to come back even more.
Having phoned up and booked requesting that there was no fish on our Afternnon Tea out it came with tuna sandwiches and salmon on oat cakes! This was taken away when I complained and a new plate of sandwiches brought out but shouldn't have happened in the first place! Over 40 mins before the kids food order was taken and even then we had to ask for our tea to be brought out because they forgot it! I know it was busy but not enough staff on to cope with the volume of people eating.
The Royal is a beautiful restaurant and bar, however I’m afraid that is where the positives end. We had to wait 40 minutes to have a drink served to us as unable to order directly at the bar. Restaurant staff were inattentive and uninterested and again we had a long wait for courses. Had to send back coffees ordered as we had waited over 30 minutes we no longer wanted them. Would NOT recommend this to anyone which is a shame as the sister hotel colessio is far superior. Need more staff training in customer service. Will not be back.
Great service, great food. Fab cocktails. Great day!
Amazing afternoon tea. So fresh and delicious. We got a beautiful booth to ourselves and the staff waited on us so well...very attentive. Catered to my needs very well and even made us up mocktails that were just like the real thing. 👍😀 Definetly be back. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
The bar manager needs to pay more attention to serving customers. We and other customers waited 10 minutes to have drink order taken and another 10 to arrive. Principally because it seemed all staff were making time consuming cocktails for one large party. The area is Cold to sit in. Every time a door opens the place is very drafty. A curtain over the external door would cure the permanent draft that fellow customers commented on. Since staff are running back and forward they won’t notice. Despite these minor and fixable points, we really enjoyed the evening and will be back. Just turn up the heating or close some doors! .
We were disappointed as we had come for afternoon tea last year about the same time and it was amazing. This year we bought gift vouchers as a gift for our Mum again and it just wasn’t the same. The food was average and much like any other afternoon tea- last year was so good. I had taken photos last year and the difference can be clearly seen in size and quality of food.
shall definitely return
Had a lovely afternoon in a lovely atmosphere. Afternoon tea was lovely and couldn't believe it was tea for a tenner offer. Staff very attentive and will be back soon. Thanks for a lovely experience
We were at the restaurant for afternoon tea as we had received a gift voucher from friends. Value for money was poor in the sense that afternoon tea was called ‘tea for a tenner’ yet our friends paid £28 for the gift voucher for two people which is an extra £8. When we were seated we were told we’d receive everything on the menu, the waitress took our soft drink order and left. Other (very pleasant) staff asked if we were being looked after to which we replied we were. However eventually someone had to re-take our order as it had ‘disappeared’. My fresh orange and lemonade arrived as fresh orange and soda. Our food arrived and it didn’t match the menu, it was tasty but lacking in quantity for the price that was paid for the voucher. We were still hungry afterwards so went to the Allan water cafe for food. We are unlikely to return and unlikely to recommend to friends.
Mixed experience - decor is lovely, food usually good and there are some fantastic members of staff. The offer for afternoon tea seemed like a great offer, but instead of their normal afternoon tea on a deal price, it was a small selection of okay finger sandwiches, a scone and some cakes/traybakes. It's nice to be left in peace, but there was noone around to ask for water. This was also our fourth visit where something arranged or a dietary requirement had been forgotten about by the hotel. Staff on the desk weren't very warm/didn't look too happy which was off putting. Really beautiful place, food on the whole usually nice, some really lovely staff. But the whole experience doesn't match up! A bit disappointed, won't be back in a hurry now.
stayed here for 3, nights and ate in the restaurant each night - the food was good every night with plenty of choice. The staff as usual were excellent with great service at all times. would highly recommend this place to anyone.
As usual the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the food. All wanted the dining experience to be good. The food was excellent and well presented.
Fantastic service from when we arrived until we left. Food was lovely and a great price 😁
We had lunch in dining room. Food & service very good although we had to chase up our second drink & the bill. Overall the service was polite, professional & friendly. We stayed for a few drinks in the bar. The atmosphere was great & the service quick and attentive. Will be back & hope that next experience is just as good. Many thanks.
Food excellent and staff friendly and professional
We arrived at 19:20 and it was 20:15 before we were served our drinks. This was a valentines night out this was very disappointing . Food was good but over shadowed by very bad service.
Very disappointing. Had the Sunday Roast 2 course menu. Food took more than an hour to be served and food was not very hot apart from the roast potatoes. Coffee machine broken and took another hour to prepare, Waitress very apologetic and understanding but no sign of the manager when we complained. Even 25% off our bill didn't compensate for our disappointment, Won't be back!
I had a reservation for two for afternoon tea. Although I phoned the day before to change the reservation to three, the staff had not had the updated information therefore the table wasn't ready. When we did proceed to the restaurant with the waiter, we were left standing in the hallway (with my 85 year old mother in law) as the staff were still setting up. The sandwiches were plain but tasty. The scones were delicious but instead of jam there was a runny coulis to put on them!! The cakes were fab
Enjoyed a super Sunday lunch, food was excellent, very well presented, and extremely tasty. Would recommend the Sunday roast menu. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. Surroundings very comfortable. Looking forward to our next visit!
Dreadful evening. Came to the Royal for a pleasant dinner and faced with thumping house music, dark rooms from which my elderly grandmother could not read the menu and the food took over 45 minutes to arrive. While the staff were very pleasant I was offered zero solutions to the issues presented above, other than “it is a very busy evening”..... Incredibly disappointed. We did not stay to eat the food. This is clearly not a restaurant catering for all persons.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
I had heard reports of slow service. However this was not the case. Staff were very attentive. Afternoon tea was lovely. Will return.
