About The London Carriage Works
The London Carriage Works is a multi award winning restaurant serving modern British dishes complemented by the use of local, fresh and seasonal produce.
The London Carriage Works acquired its name when during external renovation works the original company name became apparent in the stonework. The company was a coach and carriage builders and built around 1866 in a pervading fashion of the day, the Venetian palazzo.
The restaurant is sister to hope street hotel and is open to the public seven days a week, from breakfast to nightcaps, with lunch, afternoon tea, supper, dinner and cocktails in-between. In house we also cater for many varied events from wedding suppers to meetings and corporate dining.
Afternoon Tea is served daily 3-5pm
Enjoyed the meal and would summarise it as 'just nice' but for a fine dining restaurant experience i expected a bit more. It was a quiet night as we dined on a Thursday but the atmosphere lacked, well anything really I just felt like i was dining in a pub. The starters where average, the plates where too big for the portion making it look even smaller shuved in a corner it's not about quantity of food but presentation lacked. Didn't really like the pigeon with a bone making me work for what meat there was. It this posh kfc? The sauce with the chicken thigh lacked taste he couldn't tell what it was. The mains where slightly better the cod was lovely but lacked any carbs so wasn't filling. The rabbit was good but my husband said there was a strange aftertaste. The peppermint desert was the best thing about this visit was just perfect. The fact the waitress sarah asked about why we visiting was lovely and got us a birthday and anniversary choc desert and was much aprciated. This saved the experience. She didn't however know much about the wines, when asking if it was simply white or red she had to check. There was no ask if we wanted to switch wines for main course. Didn't offer to pour for us or explain the food and awkwardly set the meals down when served for me and passing the plate across the table for me to grab was disappointing as it part of the experience. I wouldn't rush back or highly recommend and I wasn't wowed by the whole thing like we where for the art school. Sorry to compare but this set the bar and you lowered it for us. Wasnt al bad but like i say just nice.
What a beautiful restaurant! Staff could not have been more helpful and food was delicious. The only slightly jarring note was the addition of an automatic 10% service charge. - I would much prefer to give a cash tip directly to staff.
Lovely dining experience for a special occasion
Nothing to say
Thanks for a lovely evening. Staff were friendly, professional and attentive. Food was delicious, particularly enjoyed the amuse bouche -smoked butter was a delight!
We are regulars at the LCW, and once again it did not disappoint, amazing food, amazing service, and once again, an amazing night, highly recommend. Thanks
Sadly, the restaurant was totally lacking in atmosphere, and was a chilly & depressing place to eat - why was it so deserted?? Two tables for 2 only for the evening - was there a reason for such poor patronage? The food, despite there being so few customers, was luke warm, on cold plates, and not overly appetising. Starters of wood pigeon and scallops were pretty, but not of the quality or flavours expected. We both ordered lamb, were advised it would be "served pink, is that OK", only for the lamb loin to be dry, over cooked and not very pleasant. When we advised front of house, they kindly agreed to pass on our comments to the chef - and we heard no more about it! Maybe we have stumbled on the reason why no-one else was dining at the restaurant that evening!
I thought the food was OK, the main course I had beef and was asked how I wanted it cooked. Although I requested rare I was not served it rare, I didnt raise it at the time as I wanted to eat with my family and enjoy my food but I was dissapointed. I also thought for the price the service was not quite up to scratch. Our food orders were taken quickly and we were sat down quickly, but I asked if we could order drinks (we werent asked if we wanted anything other than water) and when I had said I wanted a beer the girl almost walked off without asking the other guests for their orders, I had to stop her. We were also not asked again if we wanted any more drinks, so had to order these when the chance arose which meant there were times guests had to wait a period for their next drink. I though the childrens menu and food was good. The choice on the drinks (Beers and Lagers) was limited.
Service was exemplary. A lovely atmosphere. Monday night wine and dine deal very good.
Fantastic restaurant with fantastic food. Staff were amazing and atmosphere was perfect for our meal.
Dom (our waiter) was excellent!
We had a wonderful afternoon. Thank you
Food and drink was fantastic !
Love Hope Street Hotel : staff are lovely
A very enjoyable experience.
Visited here for lunch to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday which I told the restaurant on booking then forgot all about it. The chef sent a beautifully decorated plate of truffles to wish her happy birthday at the end of the meal which was a lively surprise Cocktail menu is varied as is the food menu. The food is cooked to perfection and delicious Thank you for a wonderful celebration!
Always very good
Lovely venue and great food.
A wonderful afternoon tea. Great service with nothing too much trouble.
Staff were very courteous and ensured that our afternoon tea was always topped up. The selection of cakes and sandwiches were great and we especially enjoyed the fresh scones.
Perfect venue for a meal before attending the Philharmonic. Beautiful food & the best lamb I have had for years. Looking forward to the next visit already.
Good choice and great service. Would definitely recommend.
Service was fantastic Polite friendly not afraid to gave a laugh Knowledgeable about the menu and wine, very impressed Food was great, only complaint would be a touch more sauce with the duck Overall a fantastic evening in a lovely setting
All the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. My husband and I had very different dining experiences..his beetroot and squash starter followed by steak with triple cooked chips went down an absolute treat. I had to send back a glass of warm flat prosecco, my crab ravioli was not great, the bisque was more of a gravy and my warm salad main course was inedible. It was sitting in a pool of water and to be fair I would have thought for any chef putting a warm salad together would be easy. Sarah our waitress was very understanding and took it off our bill. We had been to the restaurant on a number of occasions and stayed in the hotel but I have no desire to return.
