About The Restaurant at Jimmy's
The Restaurant at Jimmy's Farm serves the best of home-grown and East Anglian produce in our beautifully restored 200 year old Barn.
Head Chef, Jon Gay works with the seasons to create innovative dishes, with a distinctly British flavour - from a hearty breakfast, to a range of lunch time dishes, that change every day and delicious morning and afternoon teas.
Join us in our wonderful, family-friendly restaurant for our Sunday Roasts.
Plates and cutlery - small plates and juys feel that they need a new set of on trend plates etc. Food - warm but also not enough gravy - very small gravy pots served. Beef was very tough. Menu could have reflected the Farm produce a bit more. portions small. Not really what I thought it would be like. a bit disappointing but the staff are lovely.
Slow service and mistakes made even though the restaurant was quiet! Soggy Yorkshire puddings and no gluten free Yorkshire’s! Lovely manager and keen staff, just young and inexperienced waiters!
First time for breakfast here, was very enjoyable
Enjoyed lunch and probably will come back if we’re in the area
Thought the spindrift beer was a bit thin. Food was fine.
Good morning I visited Jimmy’s farm yesterday for a Mothers Day treat lunch and a walk around the farm with my family and overall we had a lovely time but I really feel strongly I need to email with some concerns. My son is 20months old and has egg and nut allergy and when we arrived I was pleased that the person checking us in mentioned his allergy but followed it up by saying so does that mean he cannot have dairy? We corrected her and said no he is fine with dairy he cannot have egg or nuts. So we were taken to our table and given menus when the waitress came to take our order we asked her to check with the chef what on the children’s menu he could have, she didn’t know what we were referring to so we told her is allergic to egg and nuts. To this she said well we have allergy information but I think that is only in regards to dairy and gluten so I will have to check, this we thought was strange but OK. So when she came back she said there was one option (sausage and mash) on the children’s menu that he could have as the chef wasn’t sure about the other things. I asked If he would be OK to have the roast dinner without a Yorkshire pudding she went to ask and came back saying yes the chef said that should be OK (very non-committal) During all this only one of our drinks came over so we had to ask for the other one. Food came and was delicious did not have to wait long and was beautifully presented. We finished and the table was cleared we asked for dessert menus and waited…someone else came to the table to check on us so asked for dessert menus again which this time were delivered quickly. The waiter took our order and we again asked could he check with the kitchen the ice lollies did they have egg or nuts in. He came back and said only the orange and strawberry lolly was dairy free, frustratingly we said he can have dairy we need to know about egg and nuts so he came back and said none of them would be suitable (which I do find difficult to believe) so we asked could maybe he just have some fruit a few raspberries or something like that. Our dessert had arrived in this time and having a chocolate brownie on the table while my poor son had nothing was like torture for him! We were then offered orange slices…OK fine by this point we just wanted something for him. Again dessert was delicious we finished and asked for the bill. Checked the bill and a 60p charge was on the bottom when we queried it we were told it was for the orange slices, as dessert was included in the child’s meal this was very disappointing so we asked for it to be removed which it was. As we were leaving the restaurant was getting busy but we sat down before noon and it really did not seem too busy. Having a child with alleregies is stressful and I feel the staff just did not have knowledge or confidence in dealing with this which in turn made us feel stressed and worried about what were being given. I never complain but I do feel strongly about this and would appreciate your response. Kind regards Chris and Fiona
The fish was slightly over cooked ,also the spotted Richard was very heavy, stodgy.
Fantastic breakfast, great service lovely atmosphere
One of the best Sunday lunches I have had in a long time. Staff are attentive and accommodating. The only negative would be for the farm and not the restaurant, whilst the kids loved the farm as we visited in the winter months the butterfly house and wood/theater were not open but we paid the full price. Maybe a winter discount would be a good idea.
All three coarses excellent and nice to see they don't put your food on slate or wooden boards.will definitely go again on a warmer and drier day so we can look around the farm.
£7.95 for a bowl of soup and a tiny roll - very expensive! The other food was all good and more reasonable.
My sister and I brought our elderly mother here for lunch. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food, which was beautifully presented, was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. Excellent value.
Brilliant! A true treasure, a perfect everything! Don’t change a thing, but maybe things are looking a little in need of renovation?
Lovely lunch. Only criticism was online booking process. Earliest I could book for was 1345 (which was quite late) but there’s clearly something wrong with your website as there were plenty of tables available much earlier. Sort that out or you may lose business. Will deffo be back again yummy!
We arrived on a very quiet day and service was very good. My 8 oz burger was lovely although over salty. My wife's stew was very tasty. The toilets were all out or order which detracted from the overall experience. My only other point was the coffee was served in a very small cup but it was of good quality.
Disappointed that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu and although the root veg hash was full of flavours it was a little too oily. Atmosphere and the friendly efficient service was second to none.
We had a fabulous meal on Sunday lunchtime! My only complaint was that it was very tight on space. The waitress had to ask be to get out if my chair as there wasn’t enough space to get through to the other tables near by. I ended up having to squeeze onto the same side of the table as my 2 yr old to avoid having to be asked to move all the time! Fabulous food though! The fish and chips were to die for and my 2 yrs old loved his meal too!
Had a late breakfast booking Sunday morning for 4. Used for a bridal party meeting. The restaurant wasn’t busy but service was slow. Wish you would offer free refills on filter coffee or tea (you could charge £3.95 for bottomless tea and coffee or something? I spent over £10 on 4 small coffees. £60 for breakfast for 4 is steep. The food is nice but doesn’t warrant the cost. So disappointing as the place is fab. We were also asked to leave the table as they had a reservation after us. Not offered another table though. We really love jimmys farm and would visit more often for breakfast if you would provide a better offer.
My Mum is in a wheelchair which would have been difficult to push over gravel. However, upon mentioning this to staff, I was delighted by how helpful everyone was. It was no trouble to open the gates and guided us in the car to a parking spot by the restaurant door. Food delicious, and staff excellent. A big thank you from my Mum and I. We can't wait to come back and bring the rest of the family. Kindest Regards, Melanie from Southend.
Staff were friendly, food was delicious and the building was beautiful. We had a lovely meal and we can't wait to come back again with family
Food was great, service with a smile but think we came at the wrong time (half term). I’m not a fan of screaming kids running around and climbing all over the wood framework around the tables where other people are trying to eat, rolling down the ramp etc. Other than that, lovely visit and really enjoyed the food.
We had a wonderful lunch. When booking I made a note to say it was my mum’s birthday and so the staff made a point of saying happy birthday to her. Many thanks
The service was friendly but a bit hit and miss.
Service was great until after the main when the restaurant was busier. We waited over 30 mins for 1 dessert & the plates were left on our table during this time. When the dessert arrived- the toffee sauce was rock hard you couldn’t even break it with your spoon. The pudding was also cold. We sent it back & had it removed from our bill as we didn’t want to wait any longer. The mains were lovely though so quite disappointed that the dessert let it down. It was also a birthday lunch which was a shame.
