Superb service incredible afternoon tea in a beautiful restaurant. Will definitely return when next in York
Very attentive and helpful staff....nothing was too much trouble. Afternoon tea was delicious and we had one of the nicest lattes I've ever had!
Afternoon Tea.. Overall is was ok, food was nice but had nicer afternoon tea for less, therefore wouldn't return. Staff could be a little more attentive, waited a while to be asked for drinks etc.. waited a while for the bill too. Received a call asking where we were as we hadn't arrived for our reservation when in fact we had been seated for 15mins! We were celebrating our 1st anniversary & my birthday so wanted it to be special which is why we booked here but regret it now which is a shame.
Incredibly slow service in a near empty restaurant and despite it being at the very start of lunch some dishes on the limited menu had already run out. Unhelpful waiter, when asked about a taxi was just redirected to the hotel concierge - a walk away from the restaurant! Overall very very disappointing.
Fabulous afternoon tea
Kind, caring staff. We were treated exceptionally well.,and would highly recommend this venue, the staff and the afternoon tea.
The food was very good, it may not be the cheapest, but is definitely the best afternoon tea in York, service was friendly.
Lovely food and atmosphere
It was a Champagne afternoon tea. Very disappointed that we only received a half glass of Champagne. Not value for money !!
Lovely food and wonderful service, drinks a little on the expensive side.
Very enjoyable experience. Great choice of teas. Food lovely. For my taste I would have preferred more savoury and fewer cakes. I'm perhaps in the minority there! Good to see people were able to take away anything they couldn't manage.
Absolutely amazing meal and first class service from the whole team at The Rise! We were celebrating my partners birthday and the experience was made extra special by receiving a free glass of prosecco and a card from the Hotel and Restaurant staff. Would definitely go back and have been recommending to friends and family.
Disappointed that service charge added to price,it was not noticeable on the menu. Atmosphere too much like a bistro than a 5 star hotel. Service a little slow and lacking in professionalism. All in all not the best afternoon tea we have had!!
Most excellent service & food.
Will certainly be back again. The anniversary card and glitter were much appreciated and the staff made our celebration special. Thank you all.
Lovely afternoon tea, food and service both amazing! Would highly recommend.
Very nice and the staff couldn’t do enough for you....
Fantastic food , great service , would highly recommend
Cakes were disappointing; too similar and tasteless.
Very attentive staff. Food is beautifully presented and delicious. We had a wonderful 4 days staying/dining at the Grand. Definitely, recommend to anyone wishing to have fine dining.
A lovely afternoon tea with complimentary fizz
Staff - Friendly / welcoming and very responsive although could have been more proactive and checked in a couple more times. Once we had finished empty plates left for a while and had to shout someone over to get the bill. Food - all dietary req well accommodated and food was satisfactory however scones disappointing, they were over cooked and crumbled on cutting. Occasion - I advised the assistant when making and confirming the booking that it was Mum’s 70th Birthday. Have read other reviews where staff have done something ‘extra’ to mark this without it being requested. I have no issue that this wasn’t done for us although think practice should be applied consistently.
I require a gluten free option which was inferior to the 'normal' option but both were disappointing. 3 tiny triangle sandwiches, which were basic, no garnish or dressing. No additional sandwiches offered, unlike other Afternoon Tea experiences we've had. We asked to take the cakes away we hadnt eaten during out time, the waiter didnt open the bag before trying to get the box with the cakes inside it so tipped it on its side, which ultimately meant, the cakes were a mess and inedible by the time we got them home. Overall a really disappointing experience which was upsetting as this was a Christmas gift from our children. I wouldnt recommend The Grand.
Lovely place. Would have liked more savoury choice as a lot of sweet cakes which were lovely. Staff were professional and friendly. Would definitely return.
It was lovely but very expensive for what we got, three tiny finger sandwiches per person is a bit stingy in my opinion! But the staff and venue are fab.
